  • Anyone familiar with San Diego/Del Mar??

I spend a lot of time in the LA area, but am making my first trip to San Deigo this weekend. I'm taking out this girl that I met through a mutual friend, and she's living in Del Mar right now.

I did some research online but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on cool spots/bars to check out. I've got dinner reservations at Coasta Brava and had planned to go check out the Pacific Beach Shore Club and Nobel Experiment (got reservations) during the day, but I'll have more time to kill and am looking for some fun/active things to do.

Was thinking of doing the zip-line at the SD Zoo, but it's a little pricey (over $100/person).

Anyone know of any good parks to go walk around at and check out the ocean?

Hit up Balboa park or the gas lamp district if you're just looking for outdoorsy activities

I just spent all Summer in Del Mar. Old Town San Dieo is pretty cool. It has some old buildings and shops, etc etc. There are actually tons of retaurants down in that area. Or you could go just North of Del Mar to Cardiff. There are a few nice/pricey restaurants there. Del Mar is real expensive. If you are trying to impress her then take her to L'Auberge right on Camino Del Mar, but be ready to shell out some cash. If you guys go there during the day, eat a Board N Brew. It is a little sandwich shop that makes great sandwiches. It is also on Camino Del Mar. As far as parks...you can take her to Torrey Pines State Reserve, really cool area to walk/hike at. At Point Loma near San Diego there are some cool lighthouses and it is also where part of Top Gun was filmed. I could go on and on. Let me know if you are looking for any other ideas.

Also...drive her over to Coronado Island. There are some really good restaurants there as well. Plus the bridge is pretty cool to go over at night.

lol It really depends on what you like to do. I've drive past the Del Mar Fairgrounds many times heading up north for appoint ments, but never been. There's a cool Driving range there right off of 5 that's kinda like a non-automated Top Golf, with target cups and stuff. There are several scenic drives in the area if that is your thing, head to the tourist center by the airport for maps. One route goes up to Mt. Soledad, pretty cool war memorial, and a great 360* view of Del Mar, La Jolla, and the San Digo Syline. Balboa park is nice and relaxing, and free, Real scenic, with the roses and such, if you like to walk. There's a pretty cool out-door Arboritum there, though kinda small. There's a Science center out there as well if that's your thing, though usuall full of students, though perhaps not so much being that school just started. Plenty of nice beaches, Coronado Island being my personal favorite, and the drive over the high bridge out there is pretty cool. Several nice piers in the area to have lunch out on too.

LA is a 3.5 hour drive, depending on traffic, if oyu care to take a day or two to check it out. The Coaster Commuter train would be a fun way to circumvent that. It goes along the coast, stops at a few coastal cities along the way, and has a stop in downtown LA. Enjoy the scenery, have a few drinks, and cab it when you get to LA.

                    View south from Mt. Soledad:

94th Aero Squadron Restaraunt, they have a huge Sunday brunch, at a decent price, and free mimosas.

Oh, and the zoo is well worth it IMO. I don't recall a zipline, but there is an open-air gondola that goes from one end of the zoo to the other, which is pretty unique, perhaps that is what you meant.

How about an Iraqi Social club?

Local, state and federal law enforcement officials Thursday announced the results of a months-long investigation into a large criminal organization.

The zip line is new this year, I think.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to check a couple of them out. Should be a fun weekend.
