I have a bug out bag that I keep loaded. It holds my ar, shotgun, 2 pistols, 9 mags for the pistols, and 6, 30rnd mags for the ar. There are a few pockes that I keep 100 rounds of shotgun in. I keep our very important documents in it as well. I have an old ammo crate in the garage that used to hold 2, 105mm rounds. I sectioned it off and it holds 1500 rounds of .223, 500 rounds of 00 buck shotgun, 300 rounds of 9mm and 400 rounds or .45. All this is addition to the mags that are in the bug out bag which are all loaded not including the mags I keep loaded in the ar, both pistols, and the shotgun. I have a rack that goes on the back of the jeep that holds 2, 5gal gas cans that I rotate out and pour into the jeep (and the lawn equipment) every other month. If it ever hit the fan I would stay put as long as possible unless the action was just too close. And only when absolutly necessary would I leave and then I dont have a clue. Probably going to squat from place to place trying to stay out of sight.

I have zero prep for anything like this, but have thought about some basic stockpiling in case of an often predicted energy crisis or financial meltdown of the US. I would like to buy a rifle and shotgun to complement my XD40, and get plenty of rounds.
I have a family member that is looking to buy some land near here for the possibility of TEOTWAWKI. I hope to get my family to him if need be.

I'd like to convert my ATV to carb not TBI... But wouldn't the coil and distrib suffer?
We've got a few handguns, a .223, and a very close friend with thousands upon thousands of misc ammo boxes all stacked up. His house is literally less than 1/4 a mile away, so even if we had to walk it would only take minutes.
Denny, I might be down.. seeing as i'll most likely be living in the Pacific NW in the near future. Wouldn't mind finding a long logging road with a high peak to call "home" if the shit really hit the fan.

An atomic detonation or EMP blast will leave you with a paperweight... and 200 gallons of gas to burn it with if you want.
Some of you guys crack me up. If all hell breaks loose, the last place you want to be is hundreds of miles from your stash. Or a private plane flight away, lol.
I'm into cold war history and one of the more interesting facets of American life during that time was the advent of bomb shelters and stockpiling goods for the impending nuclear armageddon. Especially the perverse idea of saving yourself and awakening to a clean-slate world wiped free of idiots and enemies.
I'm sorry, I honestly don't understand the logic of abandoning society to be holed up in a cave somewhere fearing a real or imagined enemy. So you figure out a way to live one, two, five or ten years longer than "everybody else." Exactly what have you gained? When the government pays, the government controls.

Lolololol at inline6
the most likely bug out scenario as has been mentioned is an EMP (or series of EMP's)
staying around civilization at that point would be a bad idea. No power, no running water, no moving vehicles, etc. Life as we know it would cease to exist. Chaos and anarchy would reign supreme, maybe not at first but within a few months when all the city folks get desperate to just survive. Breaking up into small colonies with people that know how to live off the land, how to make/operate steam machinery, how to salt/preserve meat, how to protect themselves and their property from desperate and starving people, etc. There's a great book that came out not too long ago that was about this exact event happening.
And no I'm not saying what I would do, but I have a solid plan in place.
