  • Any Kayakers?

Kayakists? Kayakians? Kayak dudes or dudettes?

I've been thinking about getting one. Haven't even started researching yet. Looking for advice or a point in the best direction from anyone here that knows about them.

I'm a big dude so I want a big one, real sturdy, the more storage the better, will be used mostly for fishing but would hopefully see time in up to level 3 whitewater in the Rockies if I can get pretty good with it. Do they make them that are okay for both?

Last month I got to sit and watch kayakers on the Ocoee River just outside of Cleveland, TN. We stopped in a few areas to watch including the Ocoee White Water Center where they held the 1996 Olypmic white water events. Those guys have some serious balls. I was very impressed with the skill some of these guys displayed. I have only used a Kayak for fishing in the strip pits in southern Missouri and Kansas. Very relaxing and tranquil but my back just couldn't handle it.

I think they do kayak at sherlocks on monday nights. Sometimes if I get drunk enough I will get on stage and kayak my ass off.

My brother got a good one (based on A LOT of research) that he only used three or four times last year before he got a girlfriend... I bet he is willing to sell it if you are truly interested.

I used to as a kid. A sport I wouldnt mind getting back in to if there where other people who enjoyed it. Its dangerous if you dont know how to roll.

I tried it for the first time last summer up in PA, it was bad ass.

Not really sure where one would be nice here, except maybe down in New Braunsfels.

The rivers here are low, and don't flow much, generally speaking.

All of the usage around here (and probably 95% of the overall usage) would be for fishing in calm waters. It would just be nice to have one that could also see rapids on rate occasion so I could use it for that in Colorado. If it has to be one or the other, then just calm water fishing is what I'd choose.

I got into yak fishing about 5 years ago. I have five right now, but will probably sell a few. I went to fork yesterday and caught a few of these...
