  • how many bags of concrete?

Im about to lay a slab in my back yard since my shop is always full of projects, I want to do 20x30x? only for car and tractor work. Im thinking 4" with rebar is plenty but what have you guys used?

My main question is how many bags(lbs) would it take to build said slab?

    Thanks,
    Chris

      Cubic Feet Required: 200
      Cubic Yards Required: 7.41
      Number 60 lb Bags: 400
      Number 80 lb Bags: 300

I wouldnt want to mix that many bags. Get a truck over there

For what you spend on bags of concrete...might be cheaper to get a truck.

              $3.50 x 300bags = $1050 in concrete... I think you can get a truck for ~$100/yd x 8yds = ~$800

by time you mix 50 bags of concrete in a wheelbarrow your gonna wish you would have just ordered a mixer truck.

Just rent a mixer if you can get teh concrete for cheap. Just make sure you have about 5 guys to help you. 1 to load & 2 to spread & even & 2 do run wheel barrows!

Mixer or not, I'd get a truck. Unless it's a HUGE mixer, you won't be able to mix and spread fast enough.

Also, if you are within city limits, you had better check into getting a building permit. A friend of mine in Haltom City was building a garage that was 20x20 and the city required him to do it 4" think with rebar, and a building inspector had to certify it.

My FIL and his buddies mixed about that much and it nearly killed them. Don't do it, get a truck and save your back.

There's a concrete place out here by my place that actually rents those pull-behind ~1.5-yard mixers that you can pickup full and ready to tow home with your truck...you'd still have to make several trips with one of those, but I'd imagine you'd be doing it in sections anyway and if there is a concrete place close to you it may be a viable option.
