If you want the old Bun N Barrel atmosphere it's at Biff Buzby's. I too loved the bun n barrel days. The last time I went to Pigstand it was an older, shadier crowd. I actually had some guys follow me out and try to follow me home to jack my rims. I never go there anymore. Also, the Pigstand is about 20% the size of what Biffs is, and you don't have to worry about watching your back at Biff's.

Go to Big Lou's. Great pizza. I'd recommend getting there right at opening time, otherwise you'll probably have 1-2 hour wait.

I know the obvious like the river walk and the Alamo, but any other suggestions? No kids, but my wife is 3 months pregnant so we won't be going to any theme parks for roller coaster rides.

Any bad-ass gun shops in the area?
Awesome restaurants we must check out?
Keep driving until you get to Padre.

That sucks about the pig stand. My wife and I used to go there on Friday nights when we were in highschool in the mid 90's. Grabbed some grub, checked out some cars and then head out to the street races.

We used to go when it was Jailhouse Cafe, but have been to Lulu's and won't be going back. The CFS had a very nasty aftertaste, like they hadn't changed their grease in forever. We wanted cinnamon rolls, obviously, but they told us that there wouldn't be any ready until 1 a.m. W/o derailing this thread, Lulu's isn't what it used to be, even before they made it on TV.

Last time I was there, it was in the late 90's and still the Jailhouse Cafe. That was also back in the day when you went to Jim's for breakfast tacos, coffee, and strawberry pie. If you asked for a cappuccino, the waitress would have laughed at you.

The Alamo drafthouse, it is by far the best movie bar I have ever been to. http://drafthouse.com/ I recommend the one on the north side. Fixed seats and good prices for that sort of thing. I also recommend the japanese gardens down there but it involves lots of walking that may be hard on your momma to be. Also be carefull and watch for bums just out of down town, the ones I incountered were very demanding.

Last time I went to Bigz I thought my burger patty was tofu or some shit, it was so dry, bland and tasteless. Asked around our table and everyone else agreed. We did enjoy the fries, and the kids loved running around outside. If you want a juicy, flavorful burger go to Chester's. JM.02.

Last time I went there was to watch that first person exorcism flick last fall with my GF and her then-pregnant sister. Sister got up about 80% through the movie and ran out, vomiting half digested chicken sour cream enchiladas on her dash to the restroom. I unknowingly went to the bathroom shortly after and stepped in it in the hallway, and the stench nearly took me down.

Taco Taco for breakfast... supposed to be the best breakfast in the US.

Acclaimed spot with breakfast all day, Tex-Mex classics & signature Norte?o tacos in a cozy setting.
