What are some good/fun remote control cars, also where's the best place to buy one?

Ive had a Traxxas Rustler for a few years. It's electric (I didn't want to mess with gas) and lots of fun. I got mine on-line from Tower Hobbies. If you pick up a copy of a RC magazine at any store you can price shop the on-line stores.

I've got a Savage X and like it. It seems to be pretty resilient to my abuse so far.

I ordered from Stormer Hobbies - $8 shipping on almost everything and they get it to you pretty quick.

There is one place and one place only to go buy one and drive them and that is Mikes hobby shop in Carrollton. Cooter was right, the E-Revo is awesome but at $650 it may not be right for a first timer. (Plus there aren't any classes for you to race it in) I would recommend a 2wd or 4wd Traxxas slash. The 2wd is harder to drive but it's $240 RTR (ready to run). The 4wd has a brushless motor and is very fast and handles well and it's $360 RTR or so. While these 2 trucks come RTR the battery charger takes about 8 hours to charge. I would dedicate $60 or so to buy a good charger that way it only takes about 45 minutes to charge a battery.

The best thing about the slash is they will take a beating!! I have not broken anything on mine in 2 months and I have hundreds of laps on it.

I would go to the track and check it out. NOBODY has a rustler, stampede, or any other model of Traxxas out there. Don't get me wrong those are good models but not good for racing. Trust me, once you drive these on the track you will get addicted. If you don't want to race then those are great choices.

The best part of Mike's is the fact that he has 2 tracks on site one indoors and one outdoors. You can buy the truck there, charge the battery and run them on the track and if you break something the parts are in stock and the staff is badass and will help you fix it for free.

I am up there practicing with my Slash or my 1/8 scale buggy 2 or 3 times a week. If you have any questions, let me know.

You hit the nail on the head my friend. With the advancement in both electric brushless motors and lipo batteries electric rc cars are just as fast, if not faster, than some nitro cars. I was racing at Mikes on Saturday and my electric buggy was outrunning some of the nitro cars. Granted alot of that is dictated by driver but power for power mine was quicker in that case. They are really quite amazing.

Yep. When they get that fast, they're difficult to control. I've got the 3.3, and its insane. One of the front tires is off the ground 90% of the time, trying to wheelie. But its fun as hell. I'm sure even an intermediate driver with a brushless revo could drive circles around me.

That being said, the nitro cars sure are fun. Such a tiny little motor, and tuning it just right sure is a neat payoff. Cant beat the sound either.

I agree. A revo with a nitro engine or an electric engine is hard to control. (It's a monster truck.) I do like the sound though.

You're right they are called 1/5 scale. Those cars are fun but there's not much you can do with them around here. I'm sure those cars will take off sometime, they are just not real popular now.

Fun and quick. Not near the price and the have gotten us by. We don't go to these places to race though, just out to the dirt or the street for some fun.

What do yall recommend for 8 and 9 year old boys? RCs are on their Christmas list but I don't know too much about them. I don't want to get them some junk but don't want to break the bank either.
