Outdoor activities as a kid?

The creek was my big hangout down here. I spent most of my summers and winters in Utah, which were dominated by skiing and jet skis.

We would catch all sorts of crazy shit down in the creek, softshell turtles, red eared sliders, baby catfish, perch, carp, the occasional bass, water moccasin, etc.. im really surprised none of us ever got hurt.

Ten Mile Creek in Duncanville was great back when I was a kid. There were so many swimming and fishing spots that required you walking up the creek instead of just coming down the bank.

At one spot behind my neighborhood there was a rope swing attached to a tree that was probably 20 foot up on the bank. Downside was if you didn't jump or swing out far enough you would land in six inches of water on the rock shelf. The city came and cut down the tree when a kid's foot got stuck and he dropped on the backswing and landed on the rock shelf breaking his back or something. The ironic part was they cut down the tree and left a three foot wide stump that was a perfect platform for jumping off of into the creek. Whenever I'm in the area I keep thinking about stopping and going back to all the old haunts and get a different perspective on everything. I remember how big some of the dirt jumps were back in the day and seeing them now makes them look so small and easy.

I forgot about playing with Hot wheels, GI Joes, dirt clod wars, exploring drainage tunnels, riding a Tonka dump truck down a hill, setting off fireworks or saving them up and emptying them to make bombs and stuff, playing in mud, setting up zip lines, swinging on ropes over creeks and stuff, shooting cans, squirrels, birds, GI Joe men (Cobra of course) with BB guns, raiding the convenience store for Slim Jims, Sixlets, Big leage Chew, and Squirt cola, writing our names in fresh concrete, climbing trees, building club houses in the woods, digging huge holes in an attempt to build bunkers, collecting bottles/cans, making weapons out of anything, getting big pieces of cardboard and trying to breakdance, boomboxes strapped to handlebars, and more that will come to me

BMX & skateboard. My life revolved around those two objects.

X2. The funny thing is now some 25-30 years later, I still skate like a madman.

We also did a lot of BB gun shooting. It's seems like I always had my rifle strapped to my back. Our motto was "if it flys, it dies!"

R/C cars were just getting fairly affordable in the early 80's when Tamaya (sp?) got big so we were really into that. That was back in the day when you had to build the whole damn car, tranny and everything. That was 1/2 the fun though.

My neighborhood had a fair amount of pools, so my buddies and I would race from one end of the block to the other end jumping fences, swiming across the pool and then hopping the next fence and so forth until you got to the end of the block.

Most of that took a backseat to dirt bikes and 3 wheelers once we got those. We'd ride them like crazy until the cops came, take a break and then do it again.

A little bit of everything mentioned. Kids dont do that stuff today. It's all ps3, YouTube, iPads.

Played in the swimming pool, rode my bicycle, rode my 4 wheeler, climbed in trees, went fishing, and played tennis.
