  • AC Question. Think I'm gettin Raped

We have American Home Shield for general insurance for house maintenance. So the AC goes out and the repairman comes and finds a bad part thats leaking freon. He recharges the system since its a slow leak to help with the cooling while we wait on the part to come in.

A day passes and he calls us to inform us that to extract the freon and put it back in will cost us 250 bucks cause AHS doesn't cover the cost to do so. 250 fucking bucks??? To extract freon and put it back in? Is this not total bull shit? Am I missing something here? This cant be right...can it?

The deductible is 60 bucks for the repair.

In this heat, Id pay the $250.00 and call it a day.

I also have AHS and I have not had any problems like that, though, a few years back (04) they replaced the entire outside unit, I not only got upgraded with a new 13 SEER 5 ton unit, they charged me an additional $50.00 to dispose of the old unit. I payed it because I didn't have a truck at the time and I did not want it sittin out there til someone else moved it for me. So $60.00 + $50.00 = $110.00 and I recieved $5000.00 worthy of A/C work done, seemed like a hell of deal to me.

AHS sucks. I would check the contract you have. If they remove the freon make sure they have a fresh reclaim jug. They cannot reclaim in a jug that has freon in it from any where else and put it back in your system. I would have them pump it down(depending on part) and replace said part. What part is it that they are replacing?

See, thats why I feel like I do. Do they think its worth 250 because they know we will pay it because of the heat, or is it really a 250 job?

I hear ya bro, on my other A/C unit my compressor blew up and again it was $60.00, they had to order it and I was without A/C for about a week but I couldn't really bitch for $60.00 smacks. Also they are out there in the heat for sometimes hours at a time so to me its a small price to pay for comfort. I know $250.00 sounds like a lot but, if we didnt have AHS we would be paying full price form the Lennox man.

I was pissed off too when it broke, by day two and the inside temp was 92, I was begging like a panhandler on walnut hill and I-35. I know sometimes it feels like your getting the fuzzy end of the lollipop, but one call to the Lennox man and $310.00 is a bargin, lol!

AHS limped my system along when they knew my policy was coming up for renewel. Our A/C is on its last leg right now and we have no heat until I replace it.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Henry, you would have gotten more than $50 by taking it to a recycler.

I've had good luck with AHS, no more than &60 everytime. I wonder if your policy doesn't cover the disposal?
