i posted a set of poker chips on craigslist. this guy responds with:

Hi,
Thanks for the response.I am willing to pay your asking price.I will pay you with money order as its the only way i can pay you at the moment due to the fact that i am away for a family emergency.I will make arrangement for the pick-up after payment have been received by you. I dont mind adding an extra $20 just for you to keep it in my favor.Reply with your full name and address where payment should be sent,and a phone number where i can reach you.Please take the posting off craigslist today and consider it sold to me.

fwiw, his email addy looks pretty legit (stevenray36@gmail), but why is he so willing to pay first, then arrange for pickup? and why is he eager to pay $20 MORE than i am asking? sounds fishy. what do you think?

I got the VERY same email reply from this person word for word about 30 minutes ago. I did a google search on that email address and stumbled onto this site talking about the very same thing from the same address. The alarm bells was going off in my head the whole time I was responding to it. Why no questions about the audio console I posted in CL. Why the extra 20 bucks, Why was it signed by one name and reply to the Steven guy.

I have been teaching my family (I'm the family go to guru) about this sort of email. I cant believe I replied even tho the little bell was ringing it's ass off.

All I sent to him was my phone number and that I would be happy to speak with him about the deal. The phone did ring about 30 minutes after my reply, but the caller ID said number & name information unavailable. The person said they were calling from some state police assn seeking donations. I turned them down with respect. I am on the Do Not Call list. Maybe this is some way to get around the law. Who knows.

One other thing, I could not pull up the email header information. Like it was never there. Strange.
