    You want. This
i know i found a different one, but i bet i could have made it work with some 2x4's mounted under the globe on the inside of the attic, and run a duct to the center of the attic from the fan and have the fan exhaust going out of the globe.

This is something I never really understood. We live in TX, so why do all of the newer houses have tall ceilings? It seems to me that it is just more unnecessary space to try to cool and will result in nothing more than higher electric bills. Is it really about impressing other folks?

          ...

The soffit vents around the perimeter of the house should be able to flow enough air to ventilate the attic. It might not hurt to add more of them, plus more thermostatic roof fans or turbines.

            This install looks correct. Link
I wouldn't trust the first way to no leak. That's crazy. The shingles need to overlap the upper portion of the flashing, like in the second link.

Biggest improvement I did was to install full length ridge vents. Big difference in the house. Ran around 700 bucks. Our a/c went out yesterday around 6 in the morning. Didn't get it back on till after around 4. Inside temps never went over 80. I do have the more efficient thermopane windows that also help a bunch.

tall ceilings are nice... which is why you consider them impressive... which is why people like them. even in their own house!

I can't stand low ceilings. I'm 6'5". Tall ceilings make a house feel more comfortable

so the attic fan i wanted was $122 at homedepot but i read an article on how to use a box fan. so i just rigged a box fan under the globe to suck air out of the attic and push through the globe. it was only 20 bucks and moves 2000 cfm vs 1600 cfm that the attic fan that was $122. the outside temp at the house is currently 102. the attic temp is 111. pretty damn good considering i just turned it off for 10 min and closed the attic door (had it cracked 4") and it hit 126 up there. that little globe on top of the house is spinning like a mofo. lol i thought about taking it off and just putting like a pitched cover over the tube that the globe sits on.

Same thing I have on my house plus radiant barrier. Took a weeks worth of attic temps before and after install. The temps were on average 24 degrees cooler after the install.
