  • Rolling Blackouts..

Get ready for them. We are in condition red on the power grid which means demand is higher than supply. And apparently we can't buy enough extra power from Mexico and surrounding states to offset the loss.

Those of you on variable rates may be getting a big suprise on your next bill.

Yeah, co-ops are different. I am speaking towards those in competitive market areas.

My fixed term just expired with my employer on Friday, but I locked it back in for another year the day before. I was considering floating for a while. Glad I didn't. The down side is had I left it floating I would probably be paying about 3-4 cents on average for 9 months of the year (plus TDSP passthroughs).

I think there should be something that supercede's an HOA order to allow for powering your home efficiently.

                      ..
ERCOT issues emergency electric power alert and calls for energy conservation measures by public

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc. (ERCOT), operator for the state’s major power grid, initiated an Energy Emergency Alert Level 1 at 1:45 p.m. today due to reserve electricity generation falling below 2,300 megawatts.

Capacity is expected to be very tight over the peak-demand period this afternoon, and ERCOT operators are closely monitoring the situation, the agency said.

“We are asking consumers and businesses to reduce their electricity use during peak electricity hours from 3 to 7 p.m.,” said Kent Saathoff, ERCOT vice president of system planning and operations.

“There’s a possibility that we may have to go to a Level 2 emergency today, " Saathoff said. That authorizes dropping "interruptible" loads – big power customers such as Gulf Coast chemical plants that are paid to reduce electricity consumption when power demand is high and generation reserves are shrinking.

That would provide extra power capacity for the remaining customers,” Saathoff said

Depends which way your house faces, tree coverage, etc.

I've never looked into them... what's a home solar system cost?

I hear people complain about this all the time. How can they have that much control over a neighborhood that they can even place regulations against something that HELPS everyone in the long run. Hell solar panels don't look the least bit trashy or ghetto. They actually make a place look a little more high tech

i am running 3 cat generators that produce a total of 9 megawatts to help the state out with power. all big plants that can produce enough power to feed back into the grid are doing this
