Thermostat is set at 68 and the house is a nice 71 degrees and my room is nice 68 degrees. I have my own climate... Low of 63 today with a high of 68. I'm a little north west of Houston though.

A 3000-3500 watt generator will pretty easily run 2 small window units and a few lights....and MIGHT run an average refrigerator although if you keep the doors closed its insulation should keep it pretty cold for several hours. My 5500 watt generator will run just about the entire house provided the A/C, clothes dryer, water heater, and cooktop/oven arent used. For a REAL whole house generator you need about 7000-8000 watt running capacity with a surge capacity of around 10-12kw for kicking on A/C compressors and high load appliances.

Being retired, I have too much time on my hands worrying about things. When we lose power in the winter, I have the same thoughts about a standby generator.Mustangs previously owned:

Someone mentioned solar panels and I priced enough panels to power my house and it would cost about $40,000 not counting government rebates or tax credits and such.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.
