i am running 3 cat generators that produce a total of 9 megawatts to help the state out with power. all big plants that can produce enough power to feed back into the grid are doing this

Is that a lot? or about what my Onan produces?

Get ready for them. We are in condition red on the power grid which means demand is higher than supply. And apparently we can't buy enough extra power from Mexico and surrounding states to offset the loss.

Those of you on variable rates may be getting a big suprise on your next bill.

a megawatt can power about 200 homes in this weather with air conditioners running full blast, so my generators can run about 1800 homes

*edit - ya it's a little bit more powerful than the onan for your house

Power production for a generator is based on the size (hp) engine driving it.

9 megs out of 3 Cats... I would bet he's running three 3516 (69 liter) engines.

What really sucks is that no one is really going to cut back or conserve because most folks operate on the mentality of "My neighbor isn't going to, so why should I?"
