Well I made Peyton get a garbage sack & help me bag his body up & got a shovel & took him in to the pasture to bury him. To make matters worse. The ground is rock hard. I had to put 4 hoses together & letting the water wet the soil through out the day. Going to bury him tonight when their mom gets home.

Kim Peyton is 11 years old. Not 9 as I had said before. He is going to be a 6th grader this year. This is a tough matter to handle because I think he didnt water the dog every couple hours like I said. His mother said he watered him that morning & once that night. He was alive last night from what I was told. But his body stunk pretty bad & was stiff. I found him at 7 this morning & cant imagine him stinking that bad in a 12 hour window. I dont think Peyton is telling the truth completely.

But he did water the dog like I asked, But I don't think he did it every couple hours like said. I imagine he got all in to his X-Box games & forgot about the dog.

It's possible he is saying the truth, with this heat the water could have evaporated quickly, i mean it was 90+ in some areas all night long.

If the dog already had some underlying medical condition, the heat could have done him in, and no matter how much water would have been provided, it wouldnt have changed the outcome.

How can you, as a "responsible" adult rely on a kid that you know, is not that reliable?

Well my daughters stepbrother Peyton is 9 years old & its his job to take care of their dog (JASPER), Yesterday I noticed he was at the door barking & barking. I told Peyton, Make sure to go out there & give that dog water in this heat & go check on him every couple hours. I brought my dog Buttkiss inside cause its hot. I told their mother that they should think about bringing him in and keeping him in his cage during the hot part of the day.

Well this morning I wake up & walk outside to have my morning coffee cause the sun is on the front side of their house & shady in the back. Well I find Jasper deceased laying right by the back door. Poor little guy was loyal right to the end. Well I go to check his water bowl & its completely empty, Also noted it wasn't tipped over. It was the way it should be,

My question is I want Peyton to understand the responsibility of animals & that they are living breathing creatures & not just toys. I am not certain if he passed from heat or maybe he didnt have enough water. I know this is going to be a moment that he remembers for the rest of his life. But it appears he wasn't given water at all yesterday while I was gone. I don't know if I should scold Peyton or console him.

How would you handle this

Well, if me and my son had both contributed to the death of one of my dogs, I wouldn't involve my ex-husband in the matter at all. Not his dog, not his house, not his problem. Then again that's only because he takes 0 involvement with the kids anyway.

In this case SEB and baby mama are the adults in the household so it should be handled primarily by mama, and backed up closely by SEB on a mutual decision.


SEB, you should at least talk to the kid like "Oh no, Look what WE did, we should be ashamed of ourselves...let's go give this guy a proper burial" not , "look what you did Peyton!"

Kim as you know. I am not here every day of the week. I stay at my house in Rockwall alot. I left yesterday morning to work & didnt get back till late last night.

In hindsight, Jasper should have been brought in. I highly recommended he be bathed & brought in cause of the heat. Regardless of his age. I do believe at 11 years old. You are old enough to have a dog & that is most boys first Responsibility as a boy growing up.

SEB if you're still trying to pass the blame I am amazed. If this kid learned from you, it makes sense why he didnt take care of the dog. Just own up and realize you have the ability to feed an water a dog as well. Nice to know you saved YOUR dogs life, but it's sad you let the other pass while blaming a child.
