Today was a SAD DAY! But I truly think it wasn't a WASTED DAY. I believe Peyton will pass today on to his son one day and stress to him how important animals are & how they are babies who depend completely on us for everything. Love, Shelter, Food. I believe Peyton now understands that we are their worlds & all they live for is our love & affection!
I know, growing up, I had very different experience than my kids. Pets were working animals as well, livestock wasn't a novelty, it was a food source, and chores were a family contribution, not something that netted an allowance. I was aware of life and death from a very early age, and I knew that harsh conditions meant death. I honestly don't know if my own children would equate having fun in the snow to the potential for death if the dogs are left outside. They would probably put two and two together if they saw the dog outside shivering, but if the animal wasn't in front of them, I don't know if they'd give thought to it. That's where parenting and explaining the facts of life comes in. It's not intuitive to a child sitting in the air conditioning, that their pet may be outside dying of heat stroke. Most kids have no idea what heat stroke is, and many adults can't even tell when they, themselves, are at risk.
It's terrible that everyone involved went through this, but I'm really glad that you were able to parent the kids more effectively from the experience.

On a side note, the majority of this board absolutely sucks at reading and figuring out the whole story before posting. I know I'm not the smartest person in the world, but holy shit some of yall are stupid.
