This. The kid should know he was at minimum partially responsible for the dog's death, and punished.

My children are 17, 13 and 11, and they all have certain responsibilities, and know the consequences of not fulfilling them.

Peyton is taking this whole thing pretty hard. Not sure what to do. thinking about just burying the dog myself. I think he has had enough & seeing the body in the sack just tears him up.

But the parent part of me wants to make him come help me dig the hole, But I think its just rubbing salt in the wound & would be overkill at this point.

As a parent, you have to decide if enough is enough. If he is bawling his eyes out constantly, don't take it to the next level.

I for one wouldn't make him dig it. I would make the mom do it and probably have a discussion before hand in the house and leave the kid inside if he really is that broken up.

Like I said before as well as others. Make the mom do it or at least help you bury the dog. If she doesn't then obviously she didn't give a fuck about the dog.

True. I hate that its a board member but IMO, someone deserves a night in jail or at least a day out in this Texas heat. Not the 11 year old boy and not SEB he doesn't even live there let alone date the woman, correct?

I have got the soil soft enough now to dig the hole & going to put the dog in the hole & let Peyton & his Mom help throw a few shovels of soil over him & I will do the rest.

Def think the kid has had enough & doesn't need anymore put on his shoulders. He is broken over it & to be honest I feel bad for him seeing him hurt like this.

I just hope he remembers this when he has kids

make him bury the dog and you wont have to "hope" he remembers how important this is Seb. this is also about listening to his mom (if she in fact told him the message about watering the dog) never let a lesson go to waste when dealing with a child.

Me & Peytons mom where married for 6 years & went are own ways. Here the past couple years we started seeing each other again & its worked great for us with me having my place & her having hers. But yes I guess you could say we date

One funny thing I've often wondered, is why does everyone put their animals in a plastic bag?

Just dig the hole and toss them in.

I can see smaller animals being put in a shoe box or something, but a dog. Hell, if I had a choice between a hefty and a bare hole I'd take the bare hole.

We all do SEB, that's not what was being shared, or at least I wasn't trying to say that an 11 yr old should have no responsibilities. I just point out that above all else the adults know way better than a child just how dangerous this weather is. As soon as his mom fell short on her responsibilities for him, his fell short for the dog, and the dog suffered.

His punishment is happening right now in the form of tears and emotion. Go bury the dog, and once it's done you and him go out there and say your goodbye's

I've never bagged them. Just dig a hole and throw them in. Usually in their favorite spot of the yard.

My thoughts so far are to. Make him dig the hole & put the dog in the hole with his who hands & make him sweat while I supervise it. I think he needs to do this himself. At 11 years old I think he needs to take Responsibility for it. He is going to be a man one day and is the man of the house with him being the only male who lives there full time.

Keep in mind guys. Peyton really is a good kid. I mean he does all the man chores IE Mowing, Garbage, Killing Scorpions for his mom & sister, Brings in the Grocerys & pumps the gas for his mom. He makes straight A's in a school that was 3rd on the nations list of best Taks Test Scores at Scurry.

If he's a good kid like you say he is, he will get the gravity of the situation all by himself without digging the grave and putting the dog in it all by himself. Take the opportunity to do it with him and talk about it. That's fucked up 9 ways to Tuesday.
