If I had a K-9 dog in my car, as a civilian, and left it out there by mistake in which the dog died... I wouldn't be facing charges for killing a cop. I should face charges of animal cruelty though regardless of how accidental this was.

If I were holding up a liquor store and an officer along with his K9 unit arrived, and I shot the dog.... I'd be facing charges for killing a cop.... because my actions are intentional and not accidental.

Say you fell asleep and ran over a cop dog. Same situation? It was accidental and not intentional.

        That's not what happened here...

Let's not talk about all the "WHAT IFS" and different scenarios that COULD happen.... let's discuss the act forgetting about a dog in a car, which is what DID happen. A tragic, horrible accident in which an animal suffered at the hands of his forgetful caregiver.
