Depends on their experience level. Once you make it to the big league it's $350k or so a year minimum. Minor league players though have a minimum well under $30k. I have a friend that pitched a couple of years for the Cubs, he has a decent house but that's only because he took his money and invested it properly and had a backup career. Had he been someone that drank away their problems and partied at the club every night he'd be dead broke and homeless.
Look at Jack Clark for an example of how lots of MLB players go. The year he finally retired he had to file bankruptcy, the guy was paying 17 car notes and owed over $2 million on his house. With zero income he didn't really have a choice. Now he's managing a prospect league team and probably making about $50k a year. This is a 4x all star that played for both the Yankees and the Red Sox. Or more recently look at Lenny Dykstra.Comment
