I'm working on talking to the Republican party here in town. I figure I'm going to sit down with them after the first of the year. The policians here get paid bank and have county cars and everything. Taxes are stupid high and the town is dying rapidly.

I'm guessing the current mayor is a Republican, I wouldn't tell them you want to revamp how they're doing everything.

My friend's sister ran Republican and was getting it from the Tea Baggers for not being conservative enough and from the Democrats for being too conservative.

Stick to your values and don't say things to make everyone happy.

I don't have it in me to compromise. Either do things right or don't start. The mayor shouldn't be getting paid while there are potholes and dilapidated buildings

If you don't know HOW to run for Mayor I'm thinking maybe you shouldn't run for Mayor.

No offense, but not doing something because you don't know how is absurd. He's not running tomorrow, he's looking ahead, too many people don't have the ability to do that. He will learn along the way, and the worst he could do is lose. Sheesh, I would hate my life if I never tried anything just because I didn't know HOW to do it.

Actually, yes. I have my own truck and draw retirement pay from the VA. There is absolutely no reason for me to take anything from this town while unemployment is high, taxes are high, and so forth. My salary should be absolutely zero. I'm not doing this to get ahead, I'm doing it because my town is dying and I can help.

What I'm saying is if I was a current public official and I was in it for the money and the city paid car and someone came up to me in a meeting and said they were going to flip everything upside down I wouldn't let their campaign see the light of day.

The best candidate for the job doesn't always win and that's why there's more to politics than shaking hands and kissing babies.
