Damn. What kind of rinkie-dink dealer did you work at? I worked with 10 other advisors and we were all writing up at least 15 RO's on slow days.

Why go back to VA if shit went south quickly the last time you were there?

The shit economy has shown businesses they can force their employees to do more for less, with a thinly veiled threat of layoffs due to the economy.

And the companies will bitch when loyalty evaporates as the economy comes back in 2013 or 2017 depending how the elections pan out.

They are, and business is through the roof in the aftermarket right now. Look at AZ, O'Reilly or Advanced earnings statements. However, the year runs a cycle. You hire in the Spring getting ready for the anarchy that is summer, summer passes, and as it goes into fall, if you loose someone you don't replace them. Or if they are a key player, you see if you can take someone from another store that is overstaffed and trim their payroll. I've already been getting emails about hiring freezes. Business usually drops about 12% from August to September. It starts cooling off, less stuff breaks, and people are spending money on getting their kids back in school instead of worrying about the car.

Maybe with the dealers, but not us. Don't think we've ever had any type of layoff. We just don't replace people we lose until next year.

<--- part of the statistic. Turns out about 7 others at my company got let off the same few days.

Gotcha. I was thinking more economic than cyclical. When I worked at Fastenal, they made our projections for top month at October, then based new year goals off of the performance in Oct. Which is fine in theory, but in reality, business is tapering off as companies try to save cash for the new year.

we don't hate it there, it's beautiful country there. my wife just didn't want to move away from her family and our friends. a lot of that has changed lately.

It was a very small import dealership. 2 advisors and 3 technicians, 1 lube tech. I'm glad I don't work there anymore though. I hated it up there.
