For my age? Most definitely. As is my family. I just wish my grandfather was around to see the results of my hardwork though. He is the one who enstilled hardwork, saving, and having goals in life in me. I do hope that in the next 5 years I keep progressing at the rate I currently am. I am always trying to be one step ahead of everyone and my one true goal that I have requires that same success I have had the past 4 years.

I can sort of relate to when you try and help and give advice when something is such life impacting, or the results are life changing. However, once you offer your advice, once you offer your helping hand and it isn't accepted, there isn't much you can do but live life with the current situation. Some people will never change, regardless..

I'm not near where I thought I'd be (or hoped, more accurately) But I'd say I'm proud of myself for the most part. Everything I've got, I own outright. I haven't fucked a single soul over to get where I'm at, or to accomplish what I've accomplished. So yeah, as far as being a generally good person, yes, I'm proud. As far as my standing in life, I'm ok with it, but to say I'm proud would be an overstatement.

As far as the relationship side of things goes, I've been single for quite some time, I don't really play the field any because of a few personality quirks I've got. But I am at a stage where I'm not willing to be with someone to fill my voids, or for me to fill theirs. I guess what I'm saying is if I'm going to be with someone, I'm going to be me, they're going to be them, and we'll just add each other to the other's life to make it even better. If that makes any sense. It does in my head, not so sure if it does here.

Without going into detail, I realized later in life that the stories my mother had fed me as a child about my father (they divorced when I was 5) were full of half truths and flat out lies. I was told that my father never cared to pay child support, but when I met him when I was 29, he produced boxes of paperwork and mail that my mother had sent back to him "return to sender". At one point he even hired a private detective to locate me because we moved and she would not tell him where I was.

I very rarely take what most people consider petty arguments and beat them to death. I appreciate your insight, Matt, I always do. But this thread is about how the members of this board would place themselves currently in regards to no only their past actions but how they perceive they've reacted to those situations that define them.

I've come to grips with the fact that I have "youngest son" syndrome. I have (2) older brothers and a younger sister. I've realized over time that even though I've gone on to be an adult, have a career, etc. I've felt the need to have my father validate me in some fashion. Maybe the youngest boy growing up in the family always trying to show that "he can do it too", or was big enough, or whatever. It's kinda weird to realize how stuff like that sticks with you over time. The approval of my father and him being proud of me was a need I really had for a long time. I think just realizing it made things better for me. In other words, knowing that I had this feeling and realizing the source of it made it much easier to handle regardless of anything my dad might say or do.
