I've had it about 8 years now....was bone stock with 58K original miles on it when I bought it from the 2nd owner who had owned it since 1980. He was a car salesman and sold the car brand new in late 69' to a couple that bought it as a "nice weather" vehicle. They brought it back to trade-in in 1980 and he was the sales mgr by that time at the same dealership. He bought it from them on the spot and kept it until 03' when he retired and sold it to me....it only had 13K whn he bought it in 80'

This is what it looked like the day I got it....

I sprung for some Billet Vintiques wheels, put new suspension in it, lowered it and put some new exhaust on it, and rolled it like that for several years. These pics are just before we took out on the 2005 Powertour (I put 2400 miles on it without a hitch, and the little 307 got 17-20 mpg the whole way!).

Right now it's completely stripped....it had one repaint in 85' and it ws an old laquer job that was getting very tired....as typical it also had some rust behind the wheel wells and throughout both wheel houses, so I'm putting full quarters on it and doing a color change to Cortez silver....I had a 461 ready to go in it, but have now decided that the LSX 6.0/T56 power will be a better idea. ...especially since I have one ready to go!

I sold this one to buy the ragtop....

Thanks Mark...I would love to check yours out sometime....we should figure out someplace to meet up or something.

Don't touch that car unless it has a real engine management system or they were able to re-tune the factory one.
What about the later 996's? Any experience with those?.....they seem to be a lot more car for the money. I know the 99's had some issues but I've read that the 02's were pretty good and among several other updates they also got a 20hp gain in stock form.

I really like the 993 era....would be very intersted if you can find out for me....much appreciated!

          I have a little insight

I just started working on Porsche at a dealer. From what I've seen so far the 911 is the most problem free car of the entire Porsche line. It's a very simple car, not a lot of electronics, Nav. and Traction control are about as exteme as it gets. This is a street performance/race car, so they kept it simple.

From what I can tell, people usally buy these cars as weekend or fair weather driving cars. Most cars only get a few thousand miles a year put on them.

They are fun to drive, but just not in stop and go traffic, they need open winding roads, so you can see what these cars are designed for.

          So far I've driven
2009 GT3, the carbon brakes are fucking amazing, stops like nothing I've ever driven, and I've driven some pretty exotic shit.
          2010 Turbo S
          about the quickest so far...
We do have 2 Carrera GT's in for service, but they stay in the shop, nobody drives them.

I've had mine for a little longer. It has been stored for years since I was young and broke! I need to do some work on the front floorpans and the trunkpan. The front fenders have small spots of rust, but the rear quarters are fine. Luckily, mine really doesn't need a lot of body work.

Everything else is solid on mine, and the quarters probably could have gone with some patch panels, but I really just wanted it to be right. It went on the back burner a few years back while I was messing with the other ones, but I got serious about it again earlier this year. This move that I'm making now should get it back to being my primary focus again (I hope).

It was a joke ....I doubt an $11K Porsche would be something I'd be interested in....

I will....and looks like it may be pretty soon.

                        Update:
I've been researching the hell out of these things and have looked at quite a number of them. I've decided to go with a 996...particularly an 02'-03'. I really like the air-cooled cars still but their practicality in our climate seems to be in question, especially where the effectiveness of the AC is concerned....and that's a worry for me with the way I intend to drive one...not a full-on daily, but it'll probably commute a couple times a week to my office (75-mile round trip), I don't intend for it to just sit in the garage like my old cars tend to. So I decided to go with the liquid-cooled era instead....they saw a number of nice upgrades starting in 02' (including a 20hp bump), also miles ahead in the creature comforts compared to the older ones. They aren't an era that the purists tend to migrate to, but everyone knows I'm not a purist type, and I don't intend to hand in my Ariat work boots for penny loafers anyway!

I'm narrowed to 2 cars right now, but more-so one than the other...this one is over in Dallas and it's a sharp looking car and also a hellofa runner!.....

It's hard loaded with just about all of the factory options, but it also has a lot of upgrades....obviously some high dollar HRE 19" wheels, but also Bilstein coilovers, C4S front bumper cover, short shifter, exhaust, and not sure what else done to the engine....at least a custom tune...it pulls noticably harder than any of the others I've been in.

Problem is...it's with a wholesaler who picked it up at auction out of state, and the guy only has very limited records of the cars history, and no records of what's been done to it (an apparent no-no on these cars)...it all seems tastefully done and certainly no cheap shit, but no idea who, what, where....and/or how hard it's been rode and put away wet. Additionally, I really don't want another black car (seems most of these cars are black, silver, or red - I love silver but damn there's a lot of them). This one has a few flaws on the exterior too...several rock chips up front, appears the rear bumper cover was repainted at some point, and there is a small ding on the drivers front fender....and it all shows up on a black car. The money is right on it, but being a dealer I'll also have to pay all of their doc, VIT, etc. BS as well.

This is the 2nd one and also the one I'm getting a lot more serious about....

This car is owned by a local pilot who purchased it from an older couple out of California....it was never a primary driver for either, comes with ALL documentation from the original owner who had it serviced at a Porsche dealer, as well as documentation from the current owner who has always had it serviced at Ruf over in Carrollton (where the car is currently on consignment)....he even went ahead and had a full/documented PPI done on it before putting it up for sale. H&R coilovers and the later style 18" wheels/tires are the only upgrade on it...otherwise all stock. It is near flawless on the exterior....just a few rock chips on the front bumper cover, but I couldn't find anything else on the entire car....it is REALLY well kept. The interior is 100% flawless....not even showing a hint of wear on the drivers seat bolsters (all others I've looked at show at least some at this age). I REALLY like the color too (Lapis Blue Metallic)...have not seen another this color in our area, but did find a couple on the web. initially the ad for the car said it had gray interior but when I called on it they said it is actually metropol blue...when I first heard that I actually blew it off b/c I didn't want blue interior....however once I saw some more pics it intrigued me, so I decided to go take a look....glad I did b/c I really like it now...its really different from all the others I've seen...very unique.

The car isn't hard loaded and actually doesn't have a few of the options I was wanting in one, but the overall condition and documented history is spot-on, and the guy says he'll sell it outside of the consignment which makes the price really right on it. He's also a cool guy...which tends to mean a lot to me when I'm buying a car....owns (and wrenches on) a couple musclecars as well...seems way more laid back than some of these other "Porsche Club" tools that I've talked too, who don't even check their own oil.

I'm going back to have a second look and drive either later this afternoon or sometime tomorrow...if I don't see anything that stands out and still feel right about it I'll very likely be putting a deposit on it.

I vote for the black one. Question maintenance? To me it looks like the PO cared about the car. It look sleek as hell, and quite a bit better than the blue one. If you've done your research though, I'm sure you have your reasons for looking at a slower, and not as black car.

Black one may have high dollar HREs, but in that pic the fitment looks "off", car looks like it's missing something with the front, skirts, and no wing. Stance looks ass-low too. Needs a dent fixed, may have been hit, and no history. Makes me think the 2nd owner bought random mods off a forum that weren't specifically for that model and likely didn't take the best care of the car. Maybe added the c4s front cover when the rear got dinged up. I would pass on that one, just my .02

Agreed, the black one just reeks of sketch. Don't really care for those wheels at all either. The blue car looks beautiful and like it's been well maintained.

Go for the blue one, sounds like it had 2 owners that really cared about the car. I would be interested to see pics of the interior, because I have yet to see a blue interior I like.
