    Smells Like Teen Spirit
    In Bloom
    Lithium
    Pennyroyal Tea
    Heart Shaped Box
    Lake of Fire
    Come As You Are
    All Apologies

Those are all songs that achieved moderate+ success on "mainstream" rock channels. I don't like Foo Fighters either, but just saying you don't like them because they're mainstream is pretty lame, considering Nirvana were the mainest of the mainstream for a 3-4 year period.
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

Forgot to include Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" in that list as well.

...and the Unplugged version of About a Girl. Yeah, Nirvana wasn't mainstream at all...

ok so i misused the term "mainstream" I meant Nirvana was more edgy of a band compared to the Foo Fighters!

All great bands are screwed up and the Foo Fighters are not one of them

Nirvana only sold 10 million copies of Nevermind. That's not mainstream!

foo fighters first cd was outstanding, I listened to their second cd and I thought it was ok at best. the song heros drum line is a complete rip off of this song. At the time I was this huge melvins fan and it pissed me the hell off.

Never could get into Joplin either, though I might give it another try since my ears have been refined since the last time I gave it a shot.
Cobain's death was the best thing that ever could've happened to his band. Nirvana was a gateway band out of the land of hair, but Kurt Cobain was severely limited as a musician, and he did nothing but hold them back.

I don't disagree with that either. I've always wondered what they could have possibly done after In Utero. If he hadn't offed himself, I imagine they would still be considered important, but his suicide took them from footnote to legend. And by talent in that post, I meant more than just musically.

he might not have been the greatest guitar player, but he created some of the most amazing guitar licks ever. I havent listened to nirvana in a long time, but kurt was amazing, and he was the talent of the band hands down

There would have been no Nirvana, if not for Melvins. Undoubtedly one of the most influential bands that nobody has heard of. I love Melvins. Mastodon do a kickass version of The Bit, if you haven't heard it. I can't access Youtube from here, otherwise I'd just post it.

Yep, the simplicity coming from the days of Van Halen and 5 minute guitar solos is another thing that helped them break the mould. Still running Nevermind through my rotation right now, and putting in the perspective of music in 1991, there just wasn't really anything else out there that sounded like them. Maybe The Pixies, but I've never really been able to get into them the way I have Nirvana. And frankly, Nirvana isn't even in my top ten bands, either. But I still recognize it as great music.

I think the meat puppets were more of an influence in the last two cds than the melvins. Although the melvins are responsible for the creation of nirvana.

the difference in the meat puppets, melvins, and foo fighters is, the meat puppets are still making great music
