Is it illegal or against city code to hook up the hose from your washing machine and run the "gray water" from clothes washing into the yard? I did this when I had my house and never got in trouble and the yard stayed green. The city didn't know how it was being done. But I also camoflaged my hose to do it. My neighbor on the other hand was watering from the outside hydrant and got a $250 fine for it during the middle of the day and on off days. Would like to know if anyone else does this.

If there are water restrictions for watering your yard with a garden hose hooked up outside what makes you think it isn't illegal to hook it up to your laundry room faucet and water your grass?

I'm sure that somewhere in the city code it is a violation.

It's a health code violation here in Garland so i assume that's the same elsewhere.

he means using the waste water from the wash and rinse cycles. Instead of the water running into the sewer he would just run it out on the lawn. we used to do this all the time out in the sticks

I was curious. This is probably why they didn't figure it out. It never ran on the sidewalk or down the sewer, just into the front and back yard. Not to mention my water bill still stayed the same. I know they were looking tho. G Funny thing is, I quit having issues with insects inside and around the house. Go figure.

It never did stink. Dependiing on the work week, I ran my washer only a few times a month. I know the soap helped keep it green.

It wasn't hooked up to the toilets or kitchen sink where organic waste would break down. I know people who have it hooked up to their septic and it is one horrible smell.. but the yard is green as fuck!

I am out in the country on a septic system, so all grey water goes into the yard, then the black water goes into the septic tanks. Always massively green where the laundry and shower lines go.

Fox 4 had a story a few years ago about some family in Plano that did that with the bathtub water from their kid taking a bath. Nobody said anything about it being illegal at the time, and they had the greenest yard on the street!

You would have no problem in any rural area I don't think. Not sure about city codes.

If you run the grey water through troughs with floating water plants, it will filter all the impurities out before it gets to the end. I have no idea the length or slope needed.
planetgreen.com they have a build site to recycle grey water like this.

                              just one example.
