  • NTTA bringing back debtors prison

Or atleast trying to. How the hell is this legal? Cocksuckers.

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The board of the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) wants to get tough on toll road drivers who owe the agency tens of thousands of dollars individually.

Earlier this week CBSDFW.COM reported that toll violators owe the NTTA more than $1,000,000. Of that amount, one unidentified driver owes the NTTA more than $120,000 in tolls and fees.

While board chairman Victor Vandergriff admits there is little that can be done to keep the violators off toll roads, he wants Texans to know who is ‘robbing’ the system.

“I’d like some discussion about what we can do to be more public, as to either who those violators are or how we elicit more…. I don’t think anybody has sympathy for those scofflaws at that level. They don’t like the fee necessarily but they have no sympathy,” said Vandergriff.

During the meeting, board member Kenneth Barr said he is fed up. “I think the message that needs to go out is that were getting serious about these people who are not paying these tolls and we’re gonna use every vehicle that’s available.”

NTTA Executive Director Allen Clemson says the agency has technology on its side since a photo, with day and time recorded, is taken every time someone goes through a toll stand. The board is considering tracking the patterns of the most serious violators.

“Once we establish that pattern, then we can have DPS out there to talk to them,” said Clemson.

The NTTA hopes to have a firm plan of action by next month.

Currently, there are warrants out for the arrest of toll violators who have ignored invoices and court appearances.

      x2.

I would rather pay $11 than deal with whatever else they think they can get from me.

It is just not worth me messing with. Now the people that owe hundreds, that might be a different story.

This has happened to me.... I received one notice, ever, and it was the "final statement". I guess the others got lost or sent to an old address. The one I received was for like $4.50 in tolls and $260 in administration fees. I can understand a late fee, but $260 on $4 fucking dollars?

Who the fuck comes up with these prices... I would pay double, or triple my toll fees, but not $260.. I called them up, told them I never received any before and without a skip of a beat they removed the admin fees.. I would hate to take those calls because I could imagine everyone is bat shit crazy when they call about their bill.

          ...

I don't see how that would be a debtor prison situation. Those people stole a service. Not that I really care because I think the toll road thing has totally gotten out of hand.

A few years ago, my sister got stopped for a traffic violation. Turned out she had a bogus warrant out for failure to pay child support. They weren't going to let her out of jail until she paid the $2000 they said she owed them. How the fuck is someone who doesn't have the money to pay in the first place suppose to earn it if they are stuck in jail until they pay it? She would have been in there indefinitely if I hadn't paid it for her. Now, that is what I would call a debtor prison.

I love the sensationalism of this story. The guy who "ZOMG owes them $120K!" is the best part. Let's say the average toll is $.50 and their service charge is $25 each time you run it. This person actually owes $1100 in tolls, the rest is just shit they decided to ad on to the bill to attempt to prey on people's fears.

I have toll tag account and these idiots still send me violations every once in a while because they can't seem to get their shit straight. I hope they put a warrant out for my arrest and I go to jail so I can rape them in the fucking mouth, they certainly deserve it.

Anyone ever used one of these? Hell, I use a tollroad maybe twice a year, and avoid them at all costs, but would gladly spend $70 to keep $8 out of those fuckwads pockets.

Let's see, if the average toll is let's say 1 dollar.

Each infraction gets a $25 fee added to it.

So out of that $1,000,000 they are "owed", that's only 38,461 ish violations, so really the amount of outstanding fees is closer to $40,000 dollars than it is 1 million.

Someone needs to out them on that. Just like the one person who owes $120,000, it's more like 4600 dollars he owes the NTTA.

No way, Al, that guy has run the tolls 240,000 times. He is like the Billy the Kid of the tollroads!

You two can crunch some numbers.

Question: I don't have a toll tag, and I have never signed a contract that requires me to pay a fee for their service, so how can I be billed, or even charged a late fee? I have never agreed to any services or fees that go along with it.

It wasn't even my car in the photo but I didn't argue how "right" I was because that doesn't stop them from adding fees, fines, and eventually arrest warrants when they feel justified in doing so

By driving on their privately owned roads, you agreed to use the road on their terms.
