Released by The Greenville Police Department:
On July 20, 2011, at 10:21 p.m. the Greenville Police Department responded to the 5600 block of Sayle Street regarding a female who was being followed by her ex-husband. She indicated that she feared he would run her off of the road.
A Greenville Police Officer located two vehicles in the 5100 block of Sayle Street. Immediately upon the officer's arrival, he witnessed a shot fired from one vehicle. That vehicle fled north on Sayle Street.
The officer provided a description of the suspect's vehicle and then attempted to aid the gunshot victim. The description of the suspect's vehicle was relayed to surrounding law enforcement agencies. A Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter responded to assist with the search for the suspect.
The victim, a 36-year old white female, was transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. The victim's two children, ages two and three, were in the backseat of her vehicle at the time of the shooting. The children did not appear to be injured.
They are in the custody of family members.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. on July 21, 2011, the Hunt County Sheriff's Department received a call from a resident of a suspicious male in the area of Highway 69 North and County Road 1033, which is two to three miles outside of Greenville.
The DPS helicopter located an abandoned vehicle in the same area, and a Hunt County Deputy confirmed that it matched the description of the suspect's vehicle.
The Greenville Police Department, Hunt County Sheriff's Department, DPS, McKinney Police Department, Garland Police Department, Caddo Mills Police Department and Celeste Police Department assisted in conducting a search for the suspect.
At 7:01 a.m., the Hunt County Sheriff's Department received a call notifying them that a man with a gun was at a location on Highway 69 North. Officers responded and Greenville Police Department Tactical Team members took the suspect, a 32-year old white male, into custody.
