If it was an attack, then it's a stupid owner. My current rott has a bit of an aggressive streak in her, she has never attacked anyone, but I don't trust her in a crowd. So my plan of action it to keep her away from people, guarding me and my property.
I'm not versed in canine, but since when were Rotts used in herding?

That looked like an attack to me.

It would have given me an excuse to use my new Boker Gemini Badger.

Rotts were originally and specifically bred for herding cattle and that instinct is still there. I have seen my rott is full on combat mode with another dog and it's way more intense and vicious than that attack.

Dogs are going to stick to their instincts no matter what. My wife's mini Dachsund has never had an unpampered day in her life, quite the lil lap dog. But when she goes outside, she still wants to tunnel, chase rabbits and all that shit they were bred for. We don't have any badgers or gophers for her to hunt like they were bred for, but she most certainly has a mean streak in her when it comes to her catches, food and her cage which we keep covered with a towel to make it dark inside like a tunnel.

I would have never thought that they were bred/used for that.

Exactly, which is what I think happened in this attack. Rottie saw her running, grabbed her and pulled her to the ground. It NEVER should have happened as the owner should have maintained control of his dog, but I don't think the dogs intentions were lethal.

The article says that the little girls is sore and traumatized, but a rott would have no problem fucking up an adult if it wanted to, much less a kid.

this may be a stupid question or not, but where would you stab a dog in case that ever happens and you have a knife handy? I mean like is there a spot where he would just let go? or would it make it more angry, bite harder and even do more damage if you don't stab a spot sufficient enough for the dog to let go

Yep. When you own one you get to know this instinct quite well. Pain in the ass teaching them to walk on a leash when they are trying to herd you. It's why they aren't recommended for small children and elderly people, they frequently bump you and can knock you down.

The throat. The first instinct for any breathing thing is if you attack the airway is to open the mouth to take in air.

Most of these dogs dont let go until theyre dead.... so it depends on the breed on how youre going to get its jaws open.... if it were a Pit or Rott and its intentions were to harm you it would never let go and youd have to wedge a pole into their mouths and pry them open... most other dogs dont lock

Right behind the ribs angled forward towards the head to get at the vitals (heart, lungs, liver). But, pretty much anywhere you stab them will usually make them let go from the pain or to defend themselves. Don't let them up and just keep stabbing until the stop moving...

I had a rott that was dog aggressive, she would hang on to our other dogs until she felt threatened, IE, by me dropping bombs on her. Several shots to the head and she'd let go.
