I have no loyalties to any flag or perceived authority of government, in this country or otherwise. America is something that is in peoples minds, and what we live in today doesn't even vaguely resemble the ideals this country was founded on. I'm proud of what my family has accomplished here since the 1600s.

But it's different, you have the option to not be an american, so you take pride in being patriotic, supporting your country of "choice". Like religion is a choice.

You don't get to pick your race, which is why Eric compared it to eye color, sure you can get colored contacts, but you can't change your actual real eye color.

And there's nothing with being proud of your race, as long as your pride doesn't intentionally degrade others.
