the owner of that mortgage isn't going to just let it go...even though the mortgage company is out of business, somebody owns that mortgage. it wouldv'e been sold in bankruptcy, etc.

I think it's a neat fairy tale story that'll result in a trashed/defunct house, with lower surrounding property values and a "homeowner" I would not trust one single bit.

This, he will never make it far enough to completely own the house. But, good for him for trying to get one over on the banks.

And bad for the people that live around it, seeing as that house probably smells like a sewer.

yeah, his interpretation of the law is a bit off.

The law seems to have been put in place for large parcels of land, and disputes over boundaries, etc when land settlement claims were first enacted. Or multiple titles for land were issued for the same piece of land.

This is one of the reasons that Title Insurance exists today, basically you get an insurance policy that says the Title Company has researched the property, and it is free and clear for the seller to sell to the buyer with no outstanding liens, etc. If one happened to come up, or an ownership claim was presented, the Title Insurance company would reimburse the the new owner if there was a mistake. (there's more to it than that, but that's the basics)

My family has been in the title business since I was a kid. My dad has owned two different title companies in south Texas, one of which he just recently purchased two years ago.

Just to clarify........ this was over 6 yrs ago
It was just an idea that never happened, it was for my foxbody that I was building.
I was just anxious to drive it around the block but like I said the car was always in pieces.
Never saw a point to registering a car that was in pieces.
Car has been registered and insured for over 4 years yet I drive it like 200 miles a year.

            Now to you..

I've got mixed emotions about this.

I like the Robin Hood approach for the liitle guy, but this guy didn't earn the home through hard work like I am doing.

I wonder if he got his knowledge through interacting with other inmates.

                1. Oh, I guess 6 years means it is no longer wrong. My bad.
                2. You weren't stealing? Well neither is he, since the house is still there. Don't get mad at me over your own erroneous contention, when you both in fact are setting out to get something without working for it. The difference is he is actually trying to do it legally, while you had no problem attempting to defraud the state. In my estimation, that makes you quite a larger sack of shit than this guy.
                3. Awww, did I upset you? Points on how to avoid this in the future: don't be a hypocritical dumbfuck, if you are capable. I have my doubts based on your retort.
                4. Yes I own a Mustang. I'm sure what I drive played a big part in your attempt to strengthen your argument, hope I didn't disappoint.

Why don't we just call it what it really is: squatting.

Oh look, nobody lives here, I'll just go ahead and claim it as my own.

Wonder how he found out about this law. I bet this guy has been incarcerated at one point and at the least has a colorful past.

Seems like he's doing on the little man's scale what so many corporate giants do these days, exploit the law for profit.

I am SURE there is at least one good lawyer in that neighborhood that will file a suit for something or other, if the HOA doesn't beat him/her to it.
If it weren't for the gutter, my mind would be homeless.

I fault his neighbors for allowing it. I have a foreclosed house a few houses down and I knew wht lights ran in that house and the bank had pulled the blinds down so you could see in it. I think he showed up like Friday late night but it was a squatter and the neighbor next door called the cops when she saw him sleeping on the floor Saturday morning. If the people on the street had been alert they could have had the cops out there before he could have anything finalized.

I guess you have selective reading....... you miss the part that it never happened and the car has been registered and insured for over 4 years.
FYI , I have 7 cars registered under my name that barely get driven so I am sure I keep TX happy

Oh I see, all of that somehow makes you less of a hypocritical dipshit? Like maybe if I post up my car and I've got knock off Cobra R's and you've got the real thing you can brag about how you may be an incompetent stump fucker, but that on the bright side you paid $200 more for a set of wheels so it makes you superior? Great thinking. I don't think highly of myself, I just think lowly of you. I can see that being confusing coming from a guy that bases personal worth on objects owned rather than intellect.
