If the bank foreclosed on the house, they have legal rights to it, but until the paperwork is completed, it doesn't belong to the original owner or the bank. Once it is completed, the bank owns it. But if the bank went bankrupt, then the bankruptcy courts will have to process it, and reassign title to the new owner, if the property is purchased by another bank. Or the bankruptcy court will turn it over to someone else to sell to recoup some amount of money to clear the debt as part of the bankruptcy. Until then it's kind of in a limbo state.

I suppose you support squatters rights when they break into someone's rental property and end up staying there for 6 months until the property owner can finally get them removed "legally" after all the bullshit they have to go through? To me it is no different.

In matters of items that require title, i.e. land/car.

Possession of the item itself is not 9/10 of the law. Possession of the title is possession.

Sure you can go request a title, and as long as it isn't disputed, you can end up owning the land/car. But that doesn't mean you will.

Nope, but that is a different issue. This house wasn't up for rent and no one was looking after it. It was an abandoned property.

I prefaced my very first post on this matter by saying that I did not believe that this was morally right, however, legally he has done nothing wrong.
