PHILADELPHIA, Pa - Police in Philadelphia will be handing out $120 fines to people who walk and text.
Officers will be looking for people who text while they walk without looking ahead.
City leaders approved the measure as part of a new program called " Give Respect, Get Respect," which was launched this past spring. The new law targets people traveling in cars, bicycles and on foot.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, police have issued hundreds of warnings to drivers who are texting and cyclists who are riding on sidewalks.
In 2009, the city of Philadelphia banned the use of handheld cellphones in cars.
