  • Philadelphia bans texting and walking

PHILADELPHIA, Pa - Police in Philadelphia will be handing out $120 fines to people who walk and text.

Officers will be looking for people who text while they walk without looking ahead.

City leaders approved the measure as part of a new program called " Give Respect, Get Respect," which was launched this past spring. The new law targets people traveling in cars, bicycles and on foot.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, police have issued hundreds of warnings to drivers who are texting and cyclists who are riding on sidewalks.

In 2009, the city of Philadelphia banned the use of handheld cellphones in cars.

Normally I would call this a money grab.. OK, actually it is.

However it's Philly, a city of assholes. Maybe they do need it.

Good, we need that shit here. And go ahead and add to that texting while driving other than just school zones. Talking on cel phones while conducting any kind of buisness in line at the grocery/autopart/clothing stores, etc. Absolutly no texting at indoor movies or hospitals.

How the hell do you ride a bike and text?

And this is just a money grab like Beavis said. Wow, all these threads about the ISDs, local and federal governments getting greedy is really starting to reflect our current situation.

        We is in truble folks.

The men who signed a piece of paper 235 years ago in that city would have puked at where we have gone as a nation.

If they were around these days, they would just text you a puke smilie to your phone.

Banning cellphone use while in a car, I am 100% for. It endangers other people. Banning it while on a bicycle, maybe, I wouldn't want to be hit by a bicycle, but I can't see people being stupid enough to try. Walking? Hell no, that doesn't deserve a ticket at all.

How do they control it? "My client was standing and moved his weight from his right foot to his left foot, and Officer Dumbshit determined they were walking so he decided to fuck them out of $120"
