For a dealership to charge a 39.75 fee for inspection when an inspection was not performed on a used vehicle?

When I signed the papers I assumed it was getting a new inspection sticker. I looked this morning and the inspection is out 5/2011.

I know its only $40 but I am curious if this is legal.

Maybe they did a inspection last May, and are passing this cost to you.

It's probably just a standard charge... take it back an have them inspect it or give you the money back

They owe me a tank of gas because their pump broke. I will just ask them about it then. I don't really care about the 40 bucks but if I could get them to go ahead and put an inspection sticker on it to match the registration sticker it would be nice.

its legal... i used to be an inspector at a dealership. The dealership has to pay for the stickers so they can charge you for it. New Vehicles come with a 2 year inspection..

Now for used cars, some dealers will do an inspection on the vehicle as it goes through service before it hits the lot. Some wait till its sold.

For New vehicles, same as used. Some wait till its sold others do it soon as it comes off the transport and goes through the PDI (Pre-delivery Inspection). Most do it then because as most of us know those afternoon car buys can end up running into the night haha


I did inspections for 5 years for a chevy dealership and started off in PDI.

Just call your salesman and tell him to get the inspection upto date since you paid for it on the invoice. If they took the vehicle in on trade back in May I could understand but if it came in on Friday and they are charging you it seems like a simple mistake.

Man, as far as I know, on a used car, the inspection is only done if it's due.

The sales man told me their computers will automaticaly issue a refund when my registration comes in.
