  • restaurant bans children

    opinions?

A restaurant in America has chosen to ban all kids under the age of 6.

McDain's, a restaurant and golf driving range in Monroeville, PA, justified its decision by claiming that young children cannot be controlled, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

McDain's, which includes a bar, is said to have an adult atmosphere, emphasised by the fact that it has never offered a children's menu.

Owner Mike Vuick told regular customers in an email: "We feel McDain's is not a place for young children. Their volume can't be controlled and many, many times they have disturbed other customers.

"There are many child-friendly restaurants that are a lot cheaper to go to."

He added: "[There's] nothing wrong with babies, but the fact is you can't control their volume... I think it's the height of being impolite and selfish and so, therefore, I instituted a policy."

The ban has attracted mixed reaction from locals. Posting on Yelp, one man welcomed the change, commenting: "Part of me thinks this is probably a good idea. I think we live in the age of bad parenting, and a lot of parents simply cannot keep their kids under control."

However, another poster countered: "The people with the kids running and screaming at restaurants are the same ones who would answer a loudly ringing cell phone at the table and proceed to chat.

"It should be a rude-people rule not a kids-under-6 rule."

I can think of a lot of places that need to ban children.

I would eat there as often as possible if I lived in the area. Loud children in public is one of my biggest pet peeves, but especially in a restaurant when I'm trying to eat. When I was a busser and then a waiter it pissed me off to no end when people would let their little bastards run wild.

I am a parent of a 5 y/o and 11 y/o and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. There are many parents who lack the intelligence and balls to keep their kids quiet. There are a derpbillion other restaurants.

I'm probably two months away from becoming a Dad but I'm 100% for this...

I can totally understand how kids can ruin the atmosphere of a restaurant. There are plenty of alternatives. Frankly, I think parents might like it even more because they can leave the kids with a Sitter and enjoy an evening with absolutely no young kids around. That's the kind of break parents need every once in a while.

As a prior waiter, I am all for it. They usually create a hugefuckinmess, parents rarely tipped anything north of 10%, and getting a kid 5 refills of Coke is not worth my time. The next best thing I love to see is kids eating in a bar at 11 o'clock at night. Need to start carrying "Parents of the Year" awards to hand out.

Exactly, there is a reason I don't eat at places like Chucky Cheese or McDonald's and it's not the shity food. If you have kids that are uncontrollable get a sitter or order take-out if you want food from a decent place.

As a parent, I think this is okay. We work hard to keep our kids under control and do leave if necessary. However, we also don't take our kids to...higher end...places. Under the age of 6 is fair enough too in my opinion.

Good for him, I'd like to see other places institute the same policy

movie theaters, any and all restaurants, pretty much any place in public..... at least they should give an aptitude test to see if theyre too hyperactive to be socializing with the normal people. Like when my kid was like 7 or 8 we had a big family dinner with my in-laws..... my bro-in-law brought his retarded ass kids and my poor daughter had to sit there with them.... one of the boys was yelling and growling and doing all sorts of stupid shit and my poor daughter is looking at me like WTF get me out of here!!! Never met up with them again....

Jr. is better behaved than I am in a restaurant.

                        god bless.

I'm all for it. It is a free country.

My little shit is perfectly fine about 95% of the time but he has his moments where he gets the asshole of the year award. You never know when that moment is going to be and there is not much you can do about it either.

I don't have an issue with it at all. That said, the parents are the problem, not the child. You can't control your kids? Fucking really? You're an adult, being manipulated by a child?

These people should have been sterilized.
