I had a 1964 Chevy Impala four door with a 327 and a powerglide. I loved that car.

My first car was an '84 5.0 LX CFI/auto. I bought it in '91 and it had 80k on it. It was pretty much cherry. It was very slow (15.7@87) but I had big dreams of souping it up. I wrecked it of course and always regretted it.
It's funny that you mention wanting to drive that kind of car again just for kicks because I bought an '85 last year for sentimental reasons. Unfortunately it cost twice as much with over double the mileage compared to the one I bought back in the day.
It doesn't quite feel like the sweet machine I remembered but I do enjoy driving it. It's like a flashback to high school.

Buddy of mine has a 72 or 73 Ventura 4dr. He paid $250 for it with the slant 6 and 3 on the tree. It used to have a 4spd on the floor, but the guy put it back to the tree and just left the hole in the floor. It handles like a shopping cart when it runs.

83 camaro with 2.8L v6 turd. I got it with 186k on the clock and I'm almost possitive that it only had 4 oil changes in it's life. It wouldn't break 60mph if you threw it out of an airplane.

And hell no I wouldn't want it back.

1986 mustang lx 5.0 black on burgandy with ttops. The glass didnt seal well so the tops of the windows leaked. Had straight pipe side exit exhaust and a decent stereo. Fun car but it was from up north so it had rust issues.

1986 Tbird V8. My dad and I painted it and I got a set of pony wheels/tires for it instead of a class ring. Hell yes I want it back. I've had a few since this one though, lol.
