Yeah, probably just trying to score a ball for his son and over did what was safe. Sad situation.

Doubt the guy was drunk, this happened early in the 2nd inning... unless he had been drinking heavily before the game.

Sorry to hear about this story -- I didn't hear the announcers mention anything about it yesterday.
They mentioned it on the radio broadcast.

        Something like:
"Foul ball...Hamilton tosses it into the seats..."
        Loud "oooooooh" from the crowd
        ...silence..."Uh, what happened there?"
"A fan reaching for the ball from Hamilton fell over the railing into the moat between the scoreboard and the seats..."

An absolutely horrific ending to what should have been a great father / son evening at the ballpark. I feel for that kid. As a father I would hate for that to happen to my son.

Update: The unidentified fan has reportedly passed away. One year and one day after a fan fell from Rangers Ballpark's club level onto its lower level, another fan has fallen out of the Texas...

Count me as one of the people who don't want to see this guys death in front of his child on video. Even if he died in route to JPS.

Man, I have been in that line all morning. I don't get the fascination with watching it.

JPS has the best trauma unit in the area. When I flipped my 96 GT 10 years ago in central Arlington I also got a ride out there.

                          Sad story.

The family could very possibly sue, but IMO it's nobody's fault but the guys if there was indeed any railing there.

If someone chooses to speed, looses control, and slides off a cliff, should the family sue the city for not providing a 4 foot curb there? Nope.

I don't find it disrespectful if you don't watch for entertainment value. I DID watch it to see what happened, why it happened and so forth. i.e. The father seemed like a fairly tall dude and fell sort of head first. It seems simple to fix if they just put a next/barrier behind that board - at least in the particular case.

I also watched the Nick Berg beheading, when I was in Iraq. Really solidified for me why we were there, but it took me a couple of days to start eating again - one of those most disgusting things I've ever seen. We all had the shakes from disgust, anger and other emotions. However, it also reminded us why we had to be aware at all times - even though we were there for several months some were getting complacent.

Although, I fully understand the other side as well. However, as I said I don't find it disrespectful if you're doing it for other then entertainment. As mentioned, I don't really blame the stadium or the guy. Just guessing he wanted the damned ball to make it memorable for his son and it turned horribly tragic.
