i could care less what he was driving. he was speeding, got caught and now thinks he shouldn't have to deal with the consequences
i once thought it was important to speed up and go around a minivan who i thought was going to slow. the motorcycle cop on the other side of the hill caught me for doing 40 in a 30. did i come on here and piss & moan about getting it and try to get it dismissed? no. i broke the speed limit and got caught, paid the fine and moved on
since when did taking responsibility for your actions become the thing NOT to do?
Fact is, there is a time to break minor laws like speed limits. You don't know his mindset at the time you also don't know how serious the situation was so you can't even make the determination as to what he did was right or wrong. So apparently its not an issue of rather or not it was a true emergency; He's concerned about it affecting his insurance rates (which he also stated). So pull his dick out of your mouth and calm down.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

Bronco, thank you. You took most of the words I wanted to say right out of my mouth.
Look, I am willing the pay the fine and have paid thousands of dollars in fines for speeding since I started driving about 20 years ago. I am totally fine with that. I just figure it's a speeding tax and I gladly pay it with a smile. I've done that over 25 times easily with no issues.
What is different about this time is I was doing 27 over and I've gotten probation for worse in the past. But the judge ARBITRARILY deciding he will not grant me probation because my speed is over 85mph (his rule!). HOWEVER, right before I went up to the bench, he let a girl in front of me who was clocked at 86mph slide because she was just doing 1mph over HIS ARBITRARY limit. That is BS. Either have rigid rules or don't. If you don't have rigid rules, then you should consider the circumstances.
I am not asking for a dismissal to this ticket. I will pay $400 or whatever the ticket is without complaint, I just don't want the conviction on my driving record. It's that simple. I've never had a conviction on my driving record FOR ANYTHING and I don't want to start now because a judge decided to adhere to his own made up rule for me when he didn't do so for the lady right before me. That is what is BS.
The only reason I brought up the car was to show that I wasn't bombing down the road in a 1984 Civic with the steering wheel shaking and the tires and engine about to explode. Speeding in the car is pretty damn boring until you're doing 150mph+ as it's pretty isolated. Again, that doesn't make my speeding justifiable, I was just trying to show to some of the guys in this thread that I wasn't driving at the utter limit of my or the car's capability putting lives in danger any more so than a nearly blind Grandma driving 40mph in her Buick .Ford

you are right i don't know his mindset but i do know how serious the situation was(as explained by him). it was not an emergency, how can you not see that? he was frustrated/upset/mad/worried but that does not give the right to speed
hell i was freaking out when i heard my grandpa was in the hospital for a stroke and wanted to do 100 down I30 to get to baylor, but i didn't. if i would have & gotten popped for speeding i would not expect sympathy. i have officers that are friends and like others have said every person speeding has an 'emergency'

I missed that he has a ZR1, but that's pretty cool. I don't see how that has anything to do with anything.
I stand by everything I said. I don't blame him for seeking out a traffic attorney. I always do. He just should have done so on the front end. It may be a little late, now.
I still think the whole idea of getting leniency is pretty silly. Would it be nice? Of course. Should it be expected? No. When a cop is cool and decides not to ticket you, it's just a bonus. When they follow the letter of the law, it's the norm and you shouldn't be surprised.
Sometimes you speed for a good reason. It doesn't change that you're speeding. In my mind, once you make that decision, you are saying you don't give a shit about a stupid speeding ticket because the situation is much more important. If you get one, who cares? In fact, the only thing that would bother me would be the extra delay caused by pulling over. I'd gladly accept the ticket but try to explain to the cop that I need to get that shit done and get on my way so I can get the emergency taken care of.
Regardless, I wish you luck in fighting the ticket.

On a side note and sort of in regards to what Al was saying I think this site is on auto pilot 68% of the time and the other 32% they are trying to get on the band wagon.
It is so repetative that if someone gets a speeding ticket or another frequent issue an OP will post everyone automatically has the same 5-6 responses without really reading what the OP said. However, the moment someone who brings up a valid point or goes against the grain you start seeing people switch sides. The honest answer is maybe with the exception of 3-4% no one knows what the fuck they are talking about and just post randomly.
The site is pretty predictable at times to say the least....Originally posted by Cmarsh93zDon't Fuck with DFWmustangs...the most powerfull gang I have ever been a member of.

I don't understand why you don't see the difference in 1mph over the deferred limit Vs. 12mph over the limit. The person before you may not have shown any records, but the judge probably saw the $6k you say you've paid before + your 12mph over the limit and thought you needed to not get the easy way out for once - even with your emergency at home. While deferred doesn't go on your driving record, it is kept within cities so the Judge would have had that info.

Many people in this thread made the wrong assumptions and I made the mistake of sharing more information that I should have about the car and my driving experience to correct those wrong assumptions. That information then created new assumptions and it all turned into a crap fest. It was a mistake on my part for sharing it in the first place. My bad.Ford
