12v is probably the most reliable light duty diesel ever built.

If you keep a good lift/supply pump in a 24v, I would not be scared to own one. Weak lift pumps kill the vp44 injection pump on a 24v. As you can imagine they are quite expensive.

Not standard. They were available in the HO Cummins in 01/02-current.

We have both and the 5.9 cummins with a standard smokes the shit out of a duramax on fuel mileage. Both were loaded up similar with a toolbox bed and hoist. Cummins is an 03, duramaxs varied from 05-11 and it beats all of them.

Our Duramaxs are hit or miss, out of 3 07's one is a great truck, one is average and one has constant issues.

I think any of them, if set up right will get unreal mileage. I could kiss 26 in my 04.5 but that required staying at under 69mph and little throttle.

I never really look at them much anymore, we buy mainly full size high mileage 4x4 trucks, and jeeps now. Basically, we buy shit no one wants

I'd stick with a 5.9 and a manual for hot shot. My old man is still building trailers but I think he is sticking to bigger hydraulic units at this point.

Stay away from PJ, load trail, EW, pro-trak (out of business) and Texas pride. Anything with Quality brand axles is a death trap as well as al-ko kober axles. Stick with dexter's.
