  • PDR shops: weird feeling

I got my truck washed a month or so ago and while I was waiting in a drive-up, a guy walked up and said he could get my hail fixed by a good shop in Carrollton close to my house. I talked with him for a few minutes and gave him my number. The shop (another guy) called me a few times over the next month and I told them I wanted to wait until the storm season was past to fix it.

Well, I finally talked to the guy and he said he would cover my $200 deductible and give me an additional $300 towards a rental car, so basically, I would give him $300 less than I got from my insurance and then any supplements he gets from the insurance extra.

I don't know why, but I don't feel totally comfortable with this shop. It's Dent Mechanix in Carrollton off of West Parker. It just seems a little fly by night, but the price is certainly good. I'm worried about my truck getting jacked while it's in their possession or otherwise ragged out and then them trying to screw me somehow when I come to pick it up.

Any thoughts? It could just be a typical PDR shop, but I don't deal with them too often. Guy has seemed nice, but....for example, when I talked to him today, he said he would meet me at Enterprise when I get my rental car near my house and he'd just take my truck back to his shop and I could go with him to check it out if I wanted to see the shop. But, what about if he has an accident driving my truck back? What PDR business would be comfortable driving a customer's vehicle 5-10 miles back to his shop? I'm not comfortable with him driving my truck back to his shop either way. Just seems a little odd.

I always trust random people who walk up to my vehicle out of no where, and then give them my phone number. You've got nothing to be concerned with.

Fuck that enterprise can meet you at his shop. Sounds pretty sketch to me.

That feeling you got? There's a reason for it. Follow your gut instinct.

So let me get this straight. A guy walks up to you out of nowhere and offers to take your truck, hand you a couple hundred bucks and you are thinking of taking him up on it?

            Really?

As a general rule I don't buy things from people who come to my front door or when I'm in my car. I sure as hell don't give them my car keys.

I passed on the deal. My gut was telling me it wasn't worth it. It was a very nice car wash and the guy was authorized to be there by the car wash and I did some due diligence, but it just wasn't worth it in the end.

I got a great deal on some speakers some guys sold me out of the back of a van. They were really cool and made me a hell of a deal. They are super heavy. Cant wait to hook them up. One of the guys used to do bodywork and offered to fix the dent in my fender for $50. I took him up on it. I just had to fork over half of it so he could go get the bondo and some paint at WalMart. So far I am batting 2 for 2!

Maybe he'll be in his meat truck and he can sell you some discounted meat while he works on your fender.

Just depends, PDR guys that used to come to our car lots would take our cars and do whatever. I used to have the tint guys come grab the cars too.
