  • Driving for thirteen hours by your self.

How do you stay awake and focused. May be taking a road trip to eastern Tennessee at the end of July, and not looking forward to the drive. If I had a co driver it would be easy. But the others are heading up there a couple of days early. Any tips?

I actually went there and back to Pigeon Forge, south of Knoxville, last week. It was 15 hours. I was with some other people and only drove about 4-5 hours each way. I could make the whole trip easy but I'd wake up at 5am and hit the road while pounding down the coffee in order to get it done.

Eat light, and don't fill up on sugar and fats. Keep a bottle of water handy and some nuts, sunflower seeds or fruit.

Roll the windows down every once in a while.

XM Radio, switch it up between Fox News, outlaw country and the comedy channels. That and I make sure to stop at every rest area I see. Thirteen hours really isn't a big deal. I've driven to Indy, Orlando, Vegas and back from Chicago by myself before. Vegas was by far the worst, there wasn't a single rest area open in Arizona and you had to sit through the border check points. On your route there are plenty of distractions to keep you from being bored.

Going to Windrock, google say about 13.5 hours I think. And yeah, the plan is to leave around 5AM. I may have a copilot on the trip back, so that will help. I do drink coffee, but my try to find some that I can stand. Don't want to pound energy drinks the whole trip.

I can go about 450-500 miles on a tank. Walking around the gas stop enough, or more often?

Sound advice except for the speed. Keep them coming.

Yeah, I am hoping the scenery helps. Driving through Arkansas was nice a couple of months ago.

Low Carb Monster, cigarettes, and good music. Satellite radio is nice to mix between comedy and music.
