Just replaced the capacitor on my 24 year old carrier. It some how managed to take out the breaker.

I had to replace the fan motor on a rental with a heat pump last year. Took out the blower wheel also. That set me back a couple hundred.

You can repair them all day long, but when a service man shows up most will replace the whole thing. My FIL is owns a HVAC company and has taught me a little about it and I swear it would be one of the easiest business to con people out of money. Simple part goes out, yeah it needs a new unit, replace unit with new, fix old and sell it.

One of my moms was acting funny. Called a local place, they said replace it, called a different place, they fixed it for $300. That happened five years ago and it is still running.

Last year, the day before my newborn son came home, my central unit went down and it was 115 in the house. I feel your pain. I called the Army and they sent me 2 window units to cover things.

A year later, those two take the pressure off my worn out central system and keep my light bill down
      I wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool

I think the only reason I haven't had to replace mine is because we almost never run the AC at night. My wife and I were raised in hot and humid areas, so this dry head doesn't bother us as much. We're comfortable with just a ceiling fan at night.
damn tell her to spit on it next time
