Exactly.... I had a semi- fast car in HS (compared to the rest of the lot it was the fastest). My dad qucikly noticed my itch for racing/ going fast and immediately got me to the track and involved with a high school bracket racing series that I raced in 3 Friday's a month.

I had great parents, but teenage drivers -especially with male egos- are probably going to do dumb things.

You can preach, teach and bitch all you want. Hell, GPS tracking will show you what going on but you're not going to stop it. Unfortunately, when you start letting your kids grow-up and be on their own a little bit - a parent turns reactive. All you can hope is that all your years of parenting has a little voice in the back of their minds telling them they are being a dumb-ass - and hope it reels them in a little from doing something stupid.

And I think raising the age limit would make a difference. There is some big time maturity that happens between 16-18. That would definitely help in making better decisions.

Catch 22 on that, but how are they supposed to get to work and start turning into adults? Hell, if I had to wait until I was 18 to learn to drive, I would've been 21 or so before I could drive after enlisting and such. Having a civilian drivers license benefits in the military and a few other places.

I feel my 16-18 maturity came from being out there and so forth with a car and all that.

I hope you're right. I am trying to structure my kids to listen to me. Once they hit adolescence all I can basically do is hang on for the ride.
I tend to believe more teenagers than not want to experience things first hand w/out the aid of parental guidance or advice.
