Hope you didn't have to race the kid in the creme colored 79 coupe..lol

I watched two GP cops in a Mustang and Caprice race on Great Southwest Parkway.

You can preach, teach and bitch all you want. Hell, GPS tracking will show you what going on but you're not going to stop it. Unfortunately, when you start letting your kids grow-up and be on their own a little bit - a parent turns reactive. All you can hope is that all your years of parenting has a little voice in the back of their minds telling them they are being a dumb-ass - and hope it reels them in a little from doing something stupid.

Either that, or you can micro-manage their lives and then they really let loose after 18.
Pretty much. You can't be with them 24/7. Are you just not going to let them drive unless you're with them?

And I think raising the age limit would make a difference. There is some big time maturity that happens between 16-18. That would definitely help in making better decisions.

Catch 22 on that, but how are they supposed to get to work and start turning into adults? Hell, if I had to wait until I was 18 to learn to drive, I would've been 21 or so before I could drive after enlisting and such. Having a civilian drivers license benefits in the military and a few other places.

I feel my 16-18 maturity came from being out there and so forth with a car and all that.

Doesn't matter if the age is raised. Look at the legal age to drink. There are plenty of morons who are 21 years or older who act like 12 year old shit fucks. Parenting has not a thing to do with how a teenager is going to act given a situation. They feel they have it all figured out anyway. By that time you just hope the cognitive years were effective.

I disagree. Parenting has 100% to do with it.

I hope you're right. I am trying to structure my kids to listen to me. Once they hit adolescence all I can basically do is hang on for the ride.
I tend to believe more teenagers than not want to experience things first hand w/out the aid of parental guidance or advice.
