GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Street racing is to blame for a car crash that sent three teenagers to the hospital in Grand Prairie, police said.
Police said the drivers of a pickup truck and a car began racing after leaving South Grand Prairie High School. The driver of the car lost control, flipped and crashed.
The jaws of life were used to help get one of the car’s passengers out. That teenage girl was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Two other teens, the car’s driver and a second passenger, were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
“People need to be careful with this racing. They was going about 80 miles per hour. You need to be careful racing up and down the streets. You never know what may happen. It could have been an innocent person or kid walking across the street,” said Kendra Pope, a witness.
Both the driver of the car and the truck were ticketed for street racing. The car’s driver could face charges depending on his passengers’ injuries.

I don't think that'll fix anything. Unfortunately, most of us need to learn things the hard way.

You just pray your kids don't end up dead or killing someone while they are maturing. I just think 16 is as good of an age as any to start the process. Helps them learn responsibility, getting to work on time and car maintenance.

The other part of this is that you cannot legislate responsibility. And we all know that being 18 doesn't keep anyone from doing stupid things.

I had great parents, but teenage drivers -especially with male egos- are probably going to do dumb things.

You can preach, teach and bitch all you want. Hell, GPS tracking will show you what going on but you're not going to stop it. Unfortunately, when you start letting your kids grow-up and be on their own a little bit - a parent turns reactive. All you can hope is that all your years of parenting has a little voice in the back of their minds telling them they are being a dumb-ass - and hope it reels them in a little from doing something stupid.

Either that, or you can micro-manage their lives and then they really let loose after 18.

nope he got 2 years locked up and then like some probation. he didn't have to do the 2 in full i think or maybe it was 7 yeas but he only did 2. something like that.

This article is stupid. The authors says the drivers were "ticketed" for street racing. It's a class B Mr Meanor now, not a citation.
