As long as it breaths well I'd be ok with it. Sucks july camping, those tents get muggy as hell!"You don't so much drive it, more like poke it with a sharp stick and channel the fury when you piss it off."

I always treat the ground, trees, and whatnot to make sure that my sleep is not interrupted by pests. The sand fleas, in particular, have never really been phased by that stuff anyway. At least not in these thick East Texas woods.
We would always have sulfur in a sock for everyone to beat around their ankles and calves, when I was a Boy Scout. Then you are protected from everything that crawls up from the ground. However, I think even that is frowned upon now.

The best thing about hammock camping is the breeze in hot weather. It makes camping in Texas summer almost bearable.
This is all you need.
Tie the 550 about 2 ft above the hammock from tree to tree and then lay the tarp over the top. In a pinch I've just used a giant beach towel.
If you don't have an area with trees though, you are fucked.
Are you packing in or car-camping? If you are using your car, think about this one: http://www.tgisports.com/product_inf...ee1306127feafc
I have a 2 person that I use for lake trips and is the bombdiggity. Up off the ground, well ventilated and is comfortable. Easy to setup and take down, but it is very bulky and heavy so carrying it more than 100 yds a pain in the ass.
