My profession is one of the only ones where someone else decides what your time is worth.
So, you save someones life just to take it away? $228K is more than most people pay for a house, then they spend the next 30 or so years just trying to pay that house off. So what you are saying is that someone's sole purpose in life is to pay off a doctor that saved his life? Great, I just saved your life, now you spend the rest of it doing nothing but work to pay me for saving it. Fuck you doc, I would rather die.

How would you feel if a police officer saved your live, then demanded $200K? Still feel like it's an awfully low price?

lol...again, you have the choice of medical treatment. If you dont like it...deny your treatment. A doctor cannot force you to take medical care you dont want. This isnt a charity.

They really don't tell you how much it cost before treatment.

You think having a heart attack is going to be cheap? You think emergency surgery is going to be cheap? A little common sense goes a long ways. And until you are there with your life on the line, you dont know what your life is worth. 99% of people would rather live and try and pay their bills than die.

Unless you are unconsious or not in a proper state of mind, you have your choice. If you are unconious, the we work off of implied consent. People on dialysis have the choice to stop their treatments. Hospitalized patients have the choice to leave againse medical advice. You have the choice to go to the hospital or not when having chest pain. This is a free country

I understand medical bills suck...but its part of life.

I had to have some surgery last year and BCBS claimed there was a permanent rider on the issue and they weren't paying a dime. So I went to the hospital and offered them 50% of the bill in cash on the spot or $50 a month for the next 20 years and pay the bill in full, they took the cash. Then while paying the surgeon his secretary told me that she had never heard of a rider like that in 20 years of dealing with insurance and I fought the insurance company some more and they finally paid after I had settled all them bills. Once insurance paid the hospital only got maybe 35% of the original bill lol.

I didn't negotiate the fee with the surgeon, because it was completely reasonable in my opinion. Unlike the hospital bill.
