My profession is one of the only ones where someone else decides what your time is worth.
How would you feel if a police officer saved your live, then demanded $200K? Still feel like it's an awfully low price?

Great, I just saved your life, now you spend the rest of it doing nothing but work to pay me for saving it. Fuck you doc, I would rather die.

I had to have some surgery last year and BCBS claimed there was a permanent rider on the issue and they weren't paying a dime. So I went to the hospital and offered them 50% of the bill in cash on the spot or $50 a month for the next 20 years and pay the bill in full, they took the cash. Then while paying the surgeon his secretary told me that she had never heard of a rider like that in 20 years of dealing with insurance and I fought the insurance company some more and they finally paid after I had settled all them bills. Once insurance paid the hospital only got maybe 35% of the original bill lol.
I didn't negotiate the fee with the surgeon, because it was completely reasonable in my opinion. Unlike the hospital bill.
