and for the rest of this thread... Insurance is expensive and healthcare is expensive. It seems as though people in the healthcare field are damned if you do and damned if you dont.

Lots of healthcare places have cash prices vs insurance prices. When you pay $35k a year for someone to sit in your office and submit claims to the insurance, then wait 3 months to get paid, you have to bill higher. Then the insurance negotiated rates are close to 30% of the billed amount. Sure the Dr. billed $800 but if hes lucky he will get $200 for the visit. Still sounds like a lot of money for a 30 minute ordeal but he has a receptionist, a nurse, billing person, rent, and the rest of the overhead.

Now with all these surgeries....what do you expect? A huge part of the cost is the liability. The Dr. deserves his $10-15k for that quad bypass. When one thing goes wrong, the patient dies, he will more than likely get sued. If he doesnt settle out of court or even wins his case, it still costs him a ton of money for his insurance. Dr's always bill separate because they are not part of the hospital. So when you go to an ER, the ER Dr will bill separate from the hospital, the radiologist will bill separate and any other Dr. involved. They all work for different groups. There is money made in healthcare...dont get me wrong and there should be. Medical field people go to schooling and deserve fair compensation for their work. Im sure Dr Dave has put in a solid 12 years to get his MD and specialize in Emergency Medicine. Some Dr's will spend more than that through their residency and fellowships.

I have to be that way or I would be incapable of doing the job...self-preservation, so to speak. Now the smack talk on here is mostly just that.

people die... you have to get over it. I see people die at work all the time. Its a part of life. People get sick/old and die. You cannot stop destiny. Medical professionals try to prolong it but ultimately its not up to them. You try your best and that is all you can do. Like Dr Dave said... you dad honestly should have died many times over. Many people have helped your dad survive. You have a choice to get medical treatment.

he didnt say that your dad is a burden. He is saying dont bitch about the costs because your father is worth that money. People need to get paid regardless of your financial situation. You cant foreclose on a life like you would a house to get your money back. Times are tough.

You obviously missed the point of the thread. It was not about outrageous charges... it was about inconsistent charging and the wholed effed up billing side of healthcare.

lol... it doesnt mess up anything. There are agreed to pricing on almost everything in healthcare. Thats why some doctors dont take certain insurances. Its been this way for a long time.
