So what happened? Was there an estimate done for $xxxx, and then a supplement was written? Was any of the repair work done? Sounds to me like someone had an original estimate done, wasn't happy with the amount, and then offered a kickback to the shop to inflate the supplement.. and then take all of the money and apply it to the lien without any of the repairs being done.

You're asking the right guy!

What likely happened is the OP recommended a bodyshop, said bodyshop gave a high/good estimate, and the bodyshop got $500 for their time and trouble.
I am genuinely interested in what said shop has to say. "Storage" IMO is a coverall to say "pay me more for nothing."

So what we have here seems like shady dealings on all sides... I know a bodyshop where I live that the insurance company will not approve supplements without getting them approved by one of their trusted providers because of shady dealings in the past...
Isn't Muttherjuggs a rep for an insurance company... Maybe even progressive? Maybe she will chime in on the matter...

I don't think that's the case here, OP was genuinely trying to hook a shop/board member up with a great place to have the car fixed. Houstondallas took the lead, paid $500 for an estimate, and decided to not fix the car.
The only way we will get the truth is to get the shop's answer, and if they don't feel wronged, they have no reason to respond.
