No I am saying why would the district attorney take this. They drop cases all the time. Alot of times they drop cases that are slam dunks. This case was a joke and the DA went on to prosecute it.

Because the DA wants his name in the paper or he/she agrees with the idea that kids shouldn't be spanked. It is a wonderful country we live in where some government official can use tax dollars to prosecute someone for something that is perfectly legal, have the defendant spend thousands of dollars to defend, lose their children and there are no consequences to the government official. "De facto" oppression is still oppression. This judge should be removed. The prosecutor should be fired.

I suppose different kids respond to different methods. I was a pretty damn good kid. I was spanked hard, but I didn't really care about pain. It certainly didn't teach me any lessons. I would fuck myself up as a kid riding my bike or skateboard, or jumping off of roofs, or getting shot with a pellet gun, etc, and get right back up and keep going. Pain sucks for a bit, but then it's all back to normal. Piece of cake!

I remember getting spankings by the school principal. Other kids would come out screaming and crying. I just tried to hide my smile when it was my turn.

Depending on what I did wrong, my mom would come into my room and take away everything fun - toys, TV, radio, etc, and leave me with a set of encyclopedias and shit else. Sometimes this would last 6 weeks at a time. I could come out for meals and a shower and then back to my room I would go. It was miserable, and I never wanted to have to do it again. I'd beg for a spanking if it would end the grounding.

Exactly. Making a child deal with the consquences of their actions for extended periods teach more lessons rather a quick beating which the pain will pass in a few minutes, but only make the child hold on to animosity later down the road.

Everyday people get on this board making comments from one thread to the other about how the world is going to hell in a hand basket. About how moral standards are so low, people are less trustoworthy more than ever etc etc etc.

But yet, here is a thread with a bunch of people, several I suspect that don't even have kids of their own preaching to others about how to properly raise children. Your perspective is much different after having children of your own, than before you had them when you can say your parents did this or that to you.

So which is it, the ways of the past actually work or not? Society is in the shitter, but hey, lets stick to what we are all taught and beat our kids to perpetuate the cycle! Ridiculous.






Respectfully, I wasn't judging you, just genuinely shocked at the bruising comment. I'm not against spankings, just beatings to the point of causing physical harm such as bruising which in turn will cause emotional trauma.

Ask anyone on this board who has met my little girl, she is the sweetest, happiest little girl you will ever meet. She's never that kid you hear screaming in public like at the store or in a restaraunt. She's a rare gem and we get compliments are her sweet disposition and her behavior on a regular basis.

As for myself being a pushover, complete nonsense. As you mentioned, she's the type of kid a stern voice with Daddy's base voice in a serious tone is often enough to bring her tears. I'm a very protective father, from other people and from herself. As I'm sure you know, little girls aren't to be handled like rough boys. A small pop on the hand, or pop on the bum to get her attention at most is all that is needed. But beating her with a belt to the point of bruising her? Never.

The thing is, it is VERY easy to leave a mark with a belt. A flimsy belt won't even be felt. A heavier belt can leave a bad mark when the tip whips around, no matter how easy you swing it. I quit using a belt because of it. I prefer a fly swatter or a horse whip (A 2' long one like what a jockey uses, not an 8' long one like what you see in the movies where a cowboys is getting whipped). You hit what your aiming at and can much better regulate the strength so you don't hit too hard.

Hitting a child with a belt is over the top and IS abuse. It's not necessary to hit a kid with a belt to teach them a lesson.

When I was ten, I would've agreed with you. Not all kids need a belt. Some kids do - I was one who did and it worked.

I didn't bring up the belt. Someone else did. I don't use a belt on my daughter (way too young), and only used one once or twice with Kenny. He jumps around too much with a belt, So I went back to my hand.

You can not negotiate with kids who dont behave. Ive never had to spank my 3 nephews or my son. Ive never had any problems with my son because he knows what will happend if he gets out of line. my brothers two boys i warn them one time with the belt right next to me, they immediately stop. i do the same thing with my sisters newphew whos living with me. anytime he gets into to trouble or doesnt do what hes told they just mention that they will get me and he immediately stops. I have never negotiated with them which is what i see a lot from parents now a days. i explain to the boys that if they get out of line they get one warning, the next one they will be spanked. its not about making them fear you but fear what the consequences will be.
