It seems getting into the early 90's the CW stars were nothing more than hopefuls who failed at becoming a rock star.

    With that said, jeah...

I don't see Jerry Reed or Don Williams on any of these lists.

        Garth Brooks? lol

Jerry Reed - not king worthy (great, but not that great), and somebody mentioned Don Williams (though not by name )

Isn't it ironic then that Darius Rucker and Aaron Lewis have jumped into country? Southern rock and country are basically the same thing now. Artists like Shooter Jennings and Ryan Bingham are very hard to throw into either category.

Oh please. His work stands on its own, but take a look at some of the stuff he did with Chet Atkins. The man was in Smokey and The Bandit for chrissakes. He is way underrated IMO.

Besides, if we're just going to talk about chart toppers and record sellers, we have to throw Kenny Rogers in the mix. And we don't want to do that.

I shit you not, my old driver used to look exactly like Gary Stewart. His first name was Gary and his was just as insane. If Stewart hadn't killed himself I would have sworn my driver was him. That piece of shit would carry Gary Stewart memorabilia with him, hand it out and was consistently getting laid.

He was at a farm show selling for us and I saw this fucker telling a lady about his singing career. She was all juiced up and in the middle of the ag expo he took her into his truck (in the booth) and got blown. He gets out with a shit eating grin and told me "just wait until she gets home and checks my Wikipedia!"

I typed "not that great" but I really meant "not that type of great." Dude was awesome (RIP ), I love every song of his I've ever heard, but "king of country music" just doesn't seem to fit him.

In terms of real country music; Haggard, Cash, George Jones, Bocephus, Hank Sr., Charlie Pride, Don Williams, John Conlee and every member of The Highwaymen.

I'll take the traditional country of George Straight over Garth any day. Brooks can come talk to me after he records 57 #1 songs.

Good shit in here. I agree with the consensus that strait and garth are not near the top unless we are talking pop country.
